WHO DANCED AT WHOSE WEDDING?-High point of every evening was the "jitterbug wedding"-western style (above). FOUR LEAF CLOVER-Our photographer catches June Collins (upper left) at a climactic point in a dance version of "Four Leaf Clover," as another gala Alpha Chi Omega rushing party gets underway. AND THE RECEPTION FOLLOWED-Champagne. especially prepared by a national ginger-ale manufacturing concern, helps guests celebrate after the wedding. Girls are (from top, left to right) Jean Lindbloom, Carolyn Woodhams, Audrey Lawrence, Elizabeth Rettew, Meloday Damon, Jane Gordon, Jean Glowaki and Edith Andrew. BUT DID HE PLEDGE?-Bob Byerly, willing victim of a sorority's practice rushing session, sits - bewildered, but ecstatically happy, as the girls "do their stuff." The cigarette burned, he said, but he iidn't know how-no strength to puff ... * * ** * * Mock Sorority Rushing Stupefies Male By BOB BYERLY I was King for a Day. Until last week I'd never won a dime at poker and was always having trouble with overdue li- brary books. . Then I got in on what was both one of the most delightful lapses from precedent of the .current rushing season and my most stim- ulating experience this semester. Stimulating! It's the greatest thing since electricity. Leave me just sketch the highlights. You come in the door and they grab you. You think about cry- ing out, and then the futility of it impresses you, along with the fear that you might wake up. You are led to a chair, and five beautiful girls come over and sit around near you. They give you a cigarette, light it, and it marvel- ously starts to burn in spite of the fact that you haven't the strength to smoke it. Now the whole grandeur of un- dergraduate life starts to hit you. This is college. Honors, football letters, a basketball ticket-what do they matter now? Do you know who? From Steu- benville? No, but I'd like to know you better, with the dark hair. If you'll just sign this contract- Let me stop and make one think' clear right here. I'm not an Epi- curean, but I had given some thought to the pleasures of this life - baseball, good books, the theatre - and this rushing had never even occurred to me. Over in the corner is a blur of sheer beauty that would make Billy Rose snowblind. One hands you a cup of tea. There are no university personnel around, and you drink the tea down straight. What in the devil are you taking this semester? It was all clear when you made out the card, now everything is blank. Now nothing matters but the blonde who asked if you wouldn't like to 'take off your galoshes.. Is this all claimed. yqu wonder. Who owns all this? Is the govern- ment thinking of setting aside all these resources ' as a national park? Do the Russians know about this? All right, you say, this can't last. Go home and sleep it off. Find your coat and the one who took it, or just the one who took it, and think of something else. It may have been a mock rush- ing ceremony, but brother, it beats studying.
