Interv iewed after last night's game, Tippay Dye, Ohio State coach, called the Wolverines "a better team than Iowa." Commenting further on this year's down-to-the-wire hoop race in the Big Nine, the Buck- eye mentor stated that, in his opinion, Michigan would emerge victorious, particularly in view of the fact that the de- cisive contest will be played on Michigan's home court. Bill Rodenbach and Art Johnson staged another photo-finish with the Buckeye tankster again being given the third place. Holiday was clocked in 1:36.9. Einbinder Second Irv Einbinder turned in the best race of his year's work to edge Earl Trumble for second position in the 200-yard breaststroke as Bob Sohl broke the pool record with a 2:18.6 clocking that looked amazingly easy. These eight points shot Michigan into a 34-29 lead which they never relin- quished, Smith came back in the 440- yard freestyle to break another dual record as he captured his second triumph. Big Bill was clocked in 4:45.9 and he had to go all out to withstand a deter- mined challenge from Matt Mann III, who captured the second slot only inches back of the "Flying Hawaiian." Stager took an easy third to give the Wolverines a 38- 34 lead and insure them of at least a tie. But a tie wasn't good enough as the freestyle relay quartet really poured it on and wrote finis to the Buckeye streak in a fine 3:31.1 timing. Weinberg Praised Special commendation should go to Dick Weinberg who took two firsts and anchored the winning relay, and to Irv Einbinder who came through in the clutch to sohve the Wolverines back into the 'lead with a second in the breaststroke. Einbinder withstood a determined last lap kick from, Trumble in this event and turned on some power of his own to shake the Buckeye challenge. The tough 160-pounder would have been the only member of the 1947 "dream backfield" of Chap- puis, Weisenberger, Yerges and El- liott to return this year. It had been contended by Fritz Crisler, who traveled to Chicago to attend .to the conference, that since Elliott's participation at Purdue had taken place within one calendar year that it be con- sidered one season instead of two. (Special to The Daily) CHICAGO, ILL., Newt Loken's gymnasts finished with a rush, all but blanketing the trampoline event to gain a photo finish vic- tory over Wisconsin and the Uni- versity of Chicago, in a triangular meet at Bartlett Gymnasium last night, scoring 34 points to 33%/ for the Badgers and 28 for the Maroons. Tom Tillman, and Bob Schoen- dube came through to outbounce Gordon Thuroiv of Chicago, and Bob Willoughby came through with a fourth place in the trampo- line, last event on the program to rack up the win. . Michigan started out slowly, and failed to place a man in the first two events, the high bar and the siA3 horse which went to Bill Vrettos and Don Snyder, both of Chicago. Bob Fashbaugh scored a win in the flying ring event with Tillman close behind, and the Wolverines were back in the meet. Wisconsin's Ray Kusserow tight- ened it up still further with a vic- tory over Len Frank and Vrettos on the parallel bar. Tillman, Michigan's captain, was edged out in the tumbling event by Bill Schultz of Wiscon- sin, but Dave Lake salvaged third place for the Wolverines to set the stage for the sweeping victory in tle trampoline. Coach Loken termed the tri- angular meet "one of the most in- teresting of the season. It was well received by a nice crowd and the officiating was excellent." There will be a meeting of the "M" Club at 7:30 Tuesday in the M Club Room. A~i 1 2 . STIERUILING re ect I 3/ocia /occamow ( y ' Ka ..~ * .
