Unruffled by the fact that the Dodgers gave today's nominee, Newsom, his lumps, Bucky Harris said he would stick right with his original series pitching line-up. He injured his right ankle in an attempted steal of second base today and was carted off to a hospital. An X-ray disclosed no break, but the ankle was reported swollen and sore. The Dodgers, attempting to use she running game against the Yankees' young catchers, contin- ued to enjoy fair success. Jackie Robinson swiped second off Sher- man Lollar, a freshman backstop, lust up from Newark, in the first nning, but Reiser was an easy victim on his dash in the same inning. The jayvees in white uniforms used Stanford's plays while the Wolverine defensive aggregation tried to stop them. Howard Yerges and Wally Teninga were impres- sive in stopping the white's passes. Stanford's hopes suffered a set- back with the announcement that two of their starting backs will be unavailable for Saturday's con- test. They are Bob Anderson, po- tential All-American, who would have started at left-half and right half back George Quist. Ander- son has a shoulder injury and Quist is sidelined with a broken ankle. -On the Michigan side of the in- jury list, Coach Crisler stated that guard Dom Tomasi, who aggre- vated an ankle injury in last Sat- urday's game against Michigan State, would probably not see ac- tion in the Stanford game. While concentrating on the supposedly strong Cardinal aerial attack, Crisler expressed concern over the size of the Stanford line which will outweigh the Wolver- 38 Totals . .. Meyer replaces Billy Herman, who resigned by request after a one-year tenure under a two-year contract found the Pirates mired in a last-place tie, the worst show- ing the Bucs have made in the National League since 1917. An unconditional release yester- day was given to Hank Greenberg, famed home run slugger, at the player's request. They will also use a defensive and an offensive unit when they face Grand Rapids. Starting at the ends on the offensive eleven will be Johnny Anderson and Dave Oeming. An- derson was on last year's squad and saw action in the Michigan State game this past week-end. Dave Gomberg and John Eiz- onas will be at the tackles while Al Fitch and John Maturo, both members of the 1946 Jayvees, will handle the guard slots. Don Nich- ols, who will be over the ball, rounds out the starting line. Irv Small will handle the team from the quarterback slot and will call signals while Norm Jackson will be at fullback. Jim Morrish, passer and punter on the start- ing eleven, will be at left half while Al Noble will handle the right halfback assignment. If Grand Rapids elects to re- ceive then Coach Holgate will start the same ends and guards, but will insert Dick Strauss and Dick Brown at the tackles. Johnny Padjen and Hugh Mack will back up the line, while Prent Ryan and Don Jones will take over the wings. Small will continue as quarter and will be at safety on the defensive unit.
