Syracuse Wins Little World Series Opener SYRACUSE, Sept. 27-(P)-By the margin of a run which was forced in on a base on balls in the eighth inning, the Syracuse Chiefs took the opening game of the Lit- tle World Series from the Mil- waukee Brewers here tonight, 7 to 6. Playing in 38 degree tempera- ture which didn't deter a fine turnout of 9,222 fans, the Chiefs had to overcome their own field- ing lapses as their usual smooth style of defense deserted them in the big eighth, when the Brew- ers counted .five runs to take a temporary lead. 'Hogan Paces .international Golf Tourney CHICAGO, Sept. 27-(IP)-Ben Hogan of Hershey, Pa., missed a difficult $1,000 putt by inches but fired a seven-under-par 65 which equalled the course record and gave him a three-stroke halfway lead in the $5,000 i;nternational Golf Tourney today. The 36-hole, winner-take-all match among eight title-holders winds up with 18 holes tomorrow. Runner-up at the 18-hole mark was South African Bobby Locke, who matched Hogan's three-un- der-standard 33 on the first nine, but came back over wind-swept Tam O'Shanter course in 35 for 68.
