(Continued from Page 1) ways send out a Mr. and Mrs card their first year together, and when "little Willie" comes along his name is put on the card so fast it makes your head spin." The Answer We were patient and repeated our query once again. Just who DOES send the most affectionate Christmas cards? "Businessmen,"Goetz said, and we blinked. "You see," lie ex- plained. "They try to out-fox each other all year long and then smooth everything over at Christ- mas time to get ready for bigger and better deals next year." We asked for a sentimental ex- ample. The card Goetz produced said this: "One of the real joys of Yuletide is the opportunity to put aside the routine of everyday business and in real sincerity wish our friends a very Merry Christ- mas and a Happy New Year." SUN GETS IN YOUR EYES: U' Observatory Leads in Soler Rese(rch, lOt I'l t fl U.-, .. ' By RUSS CLANATIAN Three odd - shaped buildings atop a low hill 35 miles north of Ann Arbor today comprise a unique establishment in the world of modern astronomy-the Mc- Math-Hulbert Observatory. Directed by Prof. Robert R. Mc- Math, world famous solar re-, searcher and pioneer in the use of movies in astronomy, the observa- tory at Lake Angelus has been transformed since 1930 from a mere pastime of Prof. McMath, hisj father, Francis C. McMath and Probate Judge Henry S. Hulbart3 to the world's leading research in- stitution for the study of the sun. Opened New Field In 1932, McMath-Hulbert in- augurated a basic project which has kept Prof. McMath and a staff of other technical workers busy ever since--the exploration of the surface of the sun. In taking up this work, the ob- servatory was opening up a new field for, as Prof McMath ex- plained, "before that time, solar research was practically dead be- cause of the cost of the necessary instruments.. Pure Research But pure research, such as that which made the atomic bomb pos- sible, is still first priority at Mc- Math-Hulbert. And, as Prof. Mc- Math, solar explorer extraordi- nary, pointed out, "The sun is a tremendous atomic laboratory sucp as could never be reproduced on earth CLASSIFD, ,AaVN.E .t1N CLASSIFIED ADVEWT SNGM (h lrstutas Tea .. .
