After a let-up during the war years, many homes will again be reflecting the spirit of the seasonI 'both inside and out. Decorations foed not be elaborate or expensive ,to be effective. Setting a precedent on cam- pus, Theta Xi will have an out- door display the last week be- poorDisplays "Spread Cheer Christmas spirit may be flying in the air on campus but at Jor- dan Hall it has taken a comfort- able perch on the doors of dormi- tory rooms. Here it spells good cheer to passers-by in many bright and creative forms. One of the more unusual dis- plays is a large green wreath trimmed with small Christmas tree lights. The lights are attached by an electric cord drawn through the transom over the door. Every- - ight the wreath comes to life in multi-colored shades to welcome dorm mates. So as not to be outdone the neighboring door sports a big red paper bell suspended from the top of the door, with two small metal bells attached to ring out Holi- day greetings. A' door in the corner of the top floor boasts a lifesize pic- ture of Santa Claus holding two real candy canes. The inhabitants within have foreseen the immense .3nha . ea d t tarhr h n+, .., fore vacation. It will consist of Santa's sleigh and reindeer ar- tistically lighting the front of the house. In addition the white pillars will be wrapped with red paper to resemble candy canes. Two large plywood candles with electric light flames make a sim- ple but attractive decoration for an otherwise pl ain doorway. Wreaths and boughs of holly and1 evergreen, skillfully arranged andj accented with light from electric, candles, can enhance any home. Another interesting treatment is to frame a front window with a giant outline of a Christmas tree. The tree can be made of laurel rope and strings of col- ored bulbs, fastened to the house in the shape 'of a pine tree. For a touch of fantasy that ap- peals to all, simple construction board cutouts of snowmen, an- gels, Santa Claus and other Christmas figures can be easily made. They can be lighted with outdoor floodlights concealed in the shrubbery. Brilliantly lighted pine or fir trees on the front lawn help ex- tend holiday hospitality. No mat- ter how simple the outdoor deco- ration, special emphasis should be given to the front entrance.
