PAGE TWO TIE MICHIGAN DAILY FRIDAY, DECEMBER 12, 1947 WAGE TWO FRIDAY, DECEMBER 12, 1947 I U GRILLED' AT BANQUET:. Professor Who Can Take It', Will Win ASMESpoofuncup' From two tin spoons, a funnel and a tin cup, rose the coveted award granted each year to the most "popular-un-popular" pro- fessor in the engineering school. The prized lovingeup, presented each year at the Spoofuncup Ban- quet, was put together some years back by a scientifically minded member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers student chapter. Novel Name Stumped for a name for the award, engineers finally evolved the present title, "Spoofuncup" by taking "spoo" from spoon, "fun" from funnel, and "cup" from the tin cup. This year's banquet will be held at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday in the Union. Sponsored by the stu- dent chapter of the ASME, the "roast" is a traditional affair where engineering students can get back at their professors with- out fear of retaliation through their marks. Besides being asked a rapid fire series of questions designed to de- termine their ingenuity, wit and sense of humor, the "roastee" pro- fessors must subject themselves to a continual cross-fire of heckling from the members present. He Who Survives The contestant who is in the best mental condition after the grilling will be designated as the "Man Who Can Take It" and will be awarded the prized Spoofun- cup, symbol of being the pfofes- sor who can best survive the third degree. The winner will have pos- session of the cup until next year's banquet. Tickets for the banquet are on sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily in West Engineering. Spanish Film, 'La Barraca,' To Be Shown La Sociedad Hispanica will pre- sent "La Barraca," (the Cabin) a Spanish film, at 8:30 p.m., Wed- nesday and Thursday, in Lydia Mendelssohn Theatre. Starring are Spanish actors Domingo Soler, Anita Blanch and Amparito Manillo. The film, from a novel by Blas- co-Ivanez, author of "Blood and Sand," is a psychological film dealing with the reactions of a group of peasants to the oppres- sion of their landlords and their own resulting hatreds. The ruin of one family by death, pestilence and starvation, is graphically por- trayed. Tickets will go on sale at 2 p.m., Monday, at the Lydia Mendels- sohn Box Office. Members of La Sociedad will be admitted free upon presentation of membership cards. Raab To Play On Broadcast Emil Raab, violinist, will be heard on Pi Mu Alpha's musical program at 4 p.m. today over WPAG, through Broadcasting Service facilities. Accompanied by Robert Hen- derson, Raab will play the second and third movements of Bach's Double Concerto. Prof. Robert R. White of the chemical engineering department, will discuss the chemical engi- neer's contribution to sponsored research at 2:45 p.m. today, over WKAR. Highlights in the development of the Alumni Emeritus Club will be dramatized on "Campus Quar- ter" from 9:45 to 10 a.m. tomor- row over Station WPAG. Established in. 1931 at the final reunion of the "Tappan Boys" to honor the late President Henry Tappan, the club is limited to alumni who were graduated from the University not less than fifty years ago.
