4 TICE MTC;FA DAILY 1~~....~ 0 SURVEY RESULTS: Industry and Business Seek 10% Fewer College Graduates Although college placement bu- reaus are busier than ever this year, the demand for college grad- uates in business and industry has fallen ten per cent below last year level according to a survey presented recently at a conference Rural Schools Will Receive U. Prints Reproductions of great paint- -ngs will be loaned to. rural and village schools of Michigan under a plan announced by the Univer- sity of Michigan Extension Serv- ice. An appropriation of $2,500 has been made by the University Board of legents to enable the Extension Service to purchase a collection of 60 or more prints to be placed in the schools on a loan basis. Prof. Jean Paul Slusser, di- rector of the University Museum of Art, will select the prints, and the Museum will also have the pictures framed. ART CINEMA LEAGUE presents RAYMOND MASSEY in .f personnel executives and uni- ersity placement directors held at Evanston, Illinois. sew Developments In a4dition to the demand for cllege graduates at present, the .onference also treated new devel- puments in the recruitment of college graduates for business and industry, the salary and promo- tion of college graduates with a technical background, and the junior executive training program for experienced college graduates. A survey made of 101 represen- ative companies revealed that al- though more companies are now making use of college placement services, the demand for college graduates is ten per cent below last 'year's in both technical and business fields. Several reasons were given for the apparent decline in the de- mand for college graduates. More Than Needed Some campuses felt that com- panies last year recruited a larger number of graduates than they actually needed, while working at maximum production. Others thought that the pres- ent scarcity of raw materials pre- vented many companies from op- erating at their full capacity.
