Morning programs for majors are devoted to the development of. skills. For ten hours every week each coed develops skills in swim- ming, golf, tennis, archery and badminton. She gains experience in coaching and officiating, team sports, and rhythmic activities for teaching purposes. The officials in the Interhouse tournaments in basketball, softball and volleyball are usually majors working for na- tional ratings. Physical Education Majors are registered in the School of Edu- cation and therefore are re- quired to complete requirements for a teacher's certificate which include a major, two minors and required courses in education. The major is Physical Educa- tion and one minor is Hygiene. The second minor depends upon the choice of the individual stu- dent. Majors receive both sec- ondary and elementar9 certifi- cates. Practice teaching is done in Ann Arbor Elementary Schools and University High School. At present the program for ma- jors is a four year curriculum with approximately one year oft electives. A minor consists of 17 Expectant Mothers To Hear Address Miss Adelia Beeuwkas, Assistant Professor of Public Nutrition will address the combined Wednesday classes of expectant mothers at 2:30 p.m. today in the Child Health Building. For many years the demand has far exceeded the supply for graduates of this program and future prospects indicate that the demand will continue. Ma- jors obtain positions in Y.W.- C.A. 's, playgrounds, industries, schools, colleges and camps. Many women enter the field of physical therapy from this pro- gram. The Physical Education Club is a professional and social group for majors and minors. The club holds assemblies each week at which outside speakers, demon- strations and competitive games and sports are featured. The re- cent parties at the WAB on Fri- days have been activities of this club. Supplementary to the training received during the year is the program offered at Interlochen, National Music Camp. Women entering this program help as assistant counselors and enroll in counselor education courses. Emphasis is placed on guidance of children, camperaft, nature, waterfront and informal recrea- tion. Coeds help for half the summer in the Junior and In- termediate division and the re- maining half in the Senior High School Divisioh. The program for both majors and minors is outlined in the School of Education Bulletin. Ad- ditional information may be ob- tained by calling at the Physical Education Office in Barbour Gym. Employes DislikeBadge WASHINGTON, Nov. 24-UP)- Employees of the Atomic Energy Commission, who have to wear a badge with their picture on it while at work, have given security officials a workout. Most of the women employees dislike a badge that has to be pinned on. They say it tears dresses. Some of the men don't like it either. So, security officials offer two other choices: (1) a badge with a black ribbon for wearing around the neck, (2) a badge that clips tc coat lapel or pocket. Top favorite: The ribbon job. Incidentally, a Boston firm that makes badges to measure radia- tion dosages worn as a safety measure by people who work with radiation materials, is combining eye-appeal with utility. In tech- nical journals, it advertises "At- tractive Plastic" Badges, and shows an attractive girl wearing one. Club Members Skate To Music; Groups Organize The University Ice Skating Club will skate from 1 to 3 p.m. today and tomorrow at the Coliseum. Music for dancing will be pro- vided by disc jockey, Bob Holland, playing favorite records. Nancy Hess, chairman of Panhellenic Ball, wishes to apologize for the mix-up in the coat room of the IM Building at the dance Friday. She stressed that it was not the fault of the Alpha Phi Omega members, service fraternity, who checked coats; but was due to the fact that there were not enough coat hangers. I pt\ \\ ...
