He will not compete until after January 1. Jim Smith and Morris Smith are returnees from last year at 136 pounds, while Carlson and George Curtis are back at 145. Betzig Returns The biggest hole to fill will be at 155, due to the loss by graduation of lastgyear's captain Corky CoLrtright. Another stalwart, Captain Bob Betzig, will be back this year at 165 pounds along with Bob Johnston. Dworsky will fill the heavyweight post. Ohio University will be the first. team that will face the Wolverines, meeting them on January 16, 1948. The rest of the schedule will be anounced at a later date. Coach Keen also announced an all-campus wrestling tournament to be held December 17-18. It will serve as a pre-season test, and will be open to anyone on campus ex- cept former wrestling letter win- ners. Medals will be given the weight division winners. See the Annual Football Classic ROSE WBOW-vL AIR SPECIAL Michigan's hockey squad opens the 27th Wolverine puck season Friday night when they playthost to the Detroit Red Wings at the Coliseum in an exhibition match. The game will be the second in the annual exhibition series ar- ranged last year by Michigan Mentor Vic Heyliger and Jack Adams, manager of the Detroit professionals. In a free scoring contest, the Motor City aggrega- tion scored a 7-5 win over the Maize and Blue skaters at the out- ,set of the 1946-47 season. With the exception of Lyle Philips and George Balestri, Heyliger will have the same crew that went on to rack up 13 wins against seven losses last year, defeating the mighty Min- nesotans in the best of four games to snare the mythical Big Nine championship. The probable starting lineup for Michigan, will include Gordie Mac- Millan at center ice, Al Renfrew and Wally Gacek at the wing po- sitions, and Capt. Connie Hill and Ross Smith on defense. As in the case of last year's game the goalies of the two teams will change jer- seys which will put Harry Lumley at the nets for Michigan and Jack MacDonald in the crease for the Red Wings. Adams will probably start Abel, Lindsay and Howe on the forward line, and Quackenbush and Steward on defense. In the O'Connell New Mid get Cap-tain 1 Don O'Connell, guard and main- stay on Cliff Keen's 150-pound squad, has been named captain of next year's squad. At the same meeting retiring captain, Charlie Ketterer was voted the most valuable player on the team. Regardless of one loss to OSU, 13-2, Michigan's midgets ended up in a first place tie with Wisconsin for the mythical Big Nine cham- pionship.Z Iioudre i Signed CLEVELAND, Nov. 24 - (,) - Lou Boudreau today signed "what virtually amounts to two-year contract to manage the Cleveland Indians," Tribe president Bill Veeck announced tonight, putting a stopper on persistent reports the star shortstop would be traded. , second and third periods Adams and Heyliger will interchange one offensive line. Available for duty in addition to the starting Wolverine squad will be Bob Marshall, Bill Jacobson, Ted Greer, Owen McArdle, Dick Starrak, Leonard Brumm, Paul Fontana, Sam Stedman, Herb Up- ton, and Jack Maclnnes, the latter the first alternate net-tender. Coach Tommy Ivan, who is at the helm of the first place Na- tional Hockey club this year, will bring along Lundy, Couture, Hloreck, McFadden, Jim Con- acher, Brunteau, McNab,Kell y, and Reise as spares. Ducats for the season's opener will go on sale at 8:30 a.m. Wed- nesday morning at the { Athletic Administration Building, and offi- cials emphasize the necessity for students to present their identifi- cation cards at the time of pur- chase. 1,200 seats will be avail- able at that time and tickets will sell for 60 cents each. Last Season's Ca ers Return Coach Ozzie Cowles innovation of "building for the future" is cer- tain to reap its basketball rewards this year. Every man, from the entire first string to the last substitute, has returned en masse. And in yester- day's scrimmage Pete Elliott and Irv Wisniewski, storing their foot- ball equipment for the time being, rounded out the list of letterwin- ners. Although the members as a whole are stepping into their for- mer positions with sufficient ease, several changes have taken place since the beginning of practice. Moved up from the guard slot, Bill Mikulich has been working out on the forward line with Mack Sup- runowicz and center Bill Roberts. This move may have been done to take advantage of Mikulich's un- orthodox one hand shot which is highly effective from close court. Instead of competing for the center berth this year, Hal "Lefty" Morrill has been paired with Cap- tain Bob Harrison on guard as- signment. Also involved in the shuffle for a first string spot is last season's starter, Boyd McCas- lin, a new comer, center Don Mac- Intosh, and veteran forward "Dutch" Wierda.
