It establishes a duty and a code of conduct so that the freedom to which men are en- titled will . . . be used with res- pect to the general welfare." Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy, gov- ernor designate of the United, Provinces of India hit at the "selfishness, greed and lust for power" that characterizes West- ern Civilization. "The 'world to- day," he said, "has missed some- thing." He called attention to the "cul- tural inbalance" that has been created by concepts of group and national superiority in which the individual has been slighted. "The tragedy," he said, "is that any group effort to resolve such group delusions results in creating more delusions. Dr. Roy presented the Eastern remedy as one of "non-violence and truth," adding that physical surrender to violence might some- times be necessary-but never moral surrender. Also speaking at the Forum's second session, Dr. Reinhold Nie- buhr, professor of applied Christ- ianity at the Union Theological seminary, divided the present world crisis into three dimen- sions: the threat to democratic civilization, the peril of civiliza- tion as a whole, and, most import- ant, the inability of nations and peoples to face new responsibil- ities resolutely. Our problem, he said, is to ach- ieve "sufficient moral strength and political imagination to bring moral and political order in a world now related only by tech- nics." 48 N.C. N. Now On Sale Sigler To Talk At' Press Club Meeting Pneumonia Germ ( Mapped by Midwve ST. LOUIS, Oct. 25-()-The exact strategy of successful coun- ter-attack when pneumonia germs invade the lungs has been found by Dr. W. Barry Wood, Busch Pro- fessor of Medicine at Washington University Medical School. sUte r-Asck sIerit Professor Dr. Wood, who is remembered by football fans as Harvard's All- America quarterback in 1931, has been specializing in pneumonia re- search both here and earlier at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. Most bacteria that caused acute pneumonia have tough outer en- velopes that serve as a kind of ar- mor against the white blood cor- puscles or leucocytes, the body's defenders against bacteria. The leucocytes can attack the germs, eating and killing them, but the process is very slow until the bacteria's armor becomes coat- ed with anti-body, a protein sub- stance, Dr. Wood said.'Since anti- Governor Kim Sigler and prominent Michigan lawyers two will discuss a question due to go before the state's voters in 1948 during the 30th annual meeting of the University Press Club, to be held Nov. 5-8 at the Rackham Build- ing.
