The surprise development came after a conference with Thomas J. Wilson, State Civil Service Di- rector, who declared the state em- ployment situation had become more acute since Wilson and leg- islative leaders tentatively agreed last month to delay the pay raise question until January. Cost of General Increase A general increase, Wilson said, would cost $6,500,000 to $8,000,000' a year but that approximately $2,- 500,000 would come from Federal funds and other sources. Since the Legislature will be asked to institute pay raises for the remaining six months of the 1947-48 fiscal year, the lawmakers will be asked to appropriate about $3,500,000 at the special session. Report Resignations He reported there were 1,085 resignations in the month preced- ing Sept. 20 and more than 500 since then, mostly in the hos- pitals. The State, he said, is trying to hire hospital attendants for a4 48 hour week and from $145 to $165 a month while Wayne county is paying $192.50 to $207.50 for a 40-hour week with time and half for overtime. Interview. (Continued from Page 1) election is indicative of popular sentiment for De Gaulle or against the Communists is yet to be seen." The prospects of De Gaulle con- ing into personal power in the near future are equally unpredictable, according to Prof. Slosson. Since national elections were held in France only last year, there is not much chance for De Gaulle to gain control of the Naional Assembly. "But if the Communist Party continues to refuse to cooperate with the government, the Premier may be forced to call for another national election. In this event, De Gaulle could become head of France once more." U2 Continuous from 1 P.M. -- NOW -_ _ _ I! CONCERTS CHICAGO SYMPHONY Sunday, Oct. 26, 7 P.M.
