Washington Ph. 8132 King Cole Trio To Highlight Informal Dance Tomorrow on14e oleJ Me - - - - - - - - - - - --, As a result of the campus-wide demand for more danceable music, the central committee of "King Cole's Court" contracted Charlie Fisk and his orchestra for the in- formal dance. The committee feels that Fisk's arrangements will offer more of a contrast to the King Cole Trio and will provide the dancers a variety of dance music. Fisk and the Trio will alternate dance sets during the evening. The last of the tickets for the "Court," to be presented Informal Rush Be gins Today Opening teas for informal rush- ing will be held by eight sorori- ties from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the respective houses. All coeds who have signed up for rushing and -did not receive a sheet of Informal Rushing RuleE, are urged to pick them up today in the Undergraduate Office in the League before they attend the open houses. The teas will be strictly informal, and coeds may attend in low heels and skirts and sweaters. Rules for informal rushing in- clude that a rushee may not stay more than two hours at any house function she is invited to attend. A house may ask a rushee tc pledge after she has attended three functions at that house. If she is interested in another house, however, she does not have to ac- cept the bid at this time, but ma3 withhold her answer until she de- cides on any other bid she may re. ceive. If the rushee - accepts the bid, e member of that house will take her to the Undergraduate Office in the League. There her pledg( will be registered. Rushing wile continue until Oct. 28 when a1- bids will be due. Pledging will be from 8:30 p.m. to midnight to-j morrow in the Intramural Building, will be on sale today at booths in the Engine Arch and on the Diag. Tau Beta Pi and the Engineering Council are jointly sponsoring the all-cam- pus dance. The King Cole Trio will per- form on a specially constructed bandstand jutting out on the floor so they will be visible to more of the dancers. The entire bandstand will be decorated with crowns, de- signed by students from the school of Architecture, against a velvet backdrop bearing a three-dimen- sional pipe, bowl and fiddle. The Trio, composed of Nat Cole, "Crown Prince of Swing," on vocals and piano; Oscar Moore, guitarist; and Johnny Miller, bassist, will come to Ann Arbor from their concert en- gagement at the Civic Opera House in Chicago. The appearance at "King Cole's Court" will be one of Oscar Moore's last with the Trio. Moore is leaving the group after they celebrate their tenth anniversary together at the end of the month in New York. "Court"decorations will help create a regal atmosphere for the informal affair. Refreshments will be served at booths WAA Noticesj The WAA Hockey Club will be- in Team Tournaments at 5 p.m. 'oday at the WAB. The WAA Golf Club will hold a putting and approaching contest from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. today at the WAB. In case of rain the contest CIA95 By RAY COURAGE HE FEMALE ROBIN HOODS who can be seen swishing their way across campus with their hoods up and their coats trailing behind them like well-filled balloon sails, are strictly fair game for each and every monstrosity turned out by some of the more depraved fashion designers, as far as most of the men on campus are concerned. The possibility of the flare-back coat ever being accepted by the male on campus is practically nil. He doesn't like it, and as far as can be predicted he never will like it. This answer to a designer's prayer for getting rid of excess ma- terial, is meeting with wide disapproval, some of which is even being voiced by the women who are wearing them. THE MOST COMMON GRIPES are that the coat just isn't practical. and that it dresses up a woman about as much as would a mattress cover worn in a similar manner. Complaints from the women have to do with tripping, getting the coat caught in the wearer's loafers, getting it wet when stepping off a curb on a rainy day, or taking off for a short flight during a wind storm. From the men there come numerous protests. For example, in the theatre if a young lady wants to remove her coat, her escort is faced with the embarrassment of cutting off the view of at least 40 people immediately around them while she removes the coat. If she takes it off before she enters, her bewildered companion is obliged to carry it. Of course, these are only the smaller protests against the coat from the men. The biggest complaint seems to be that the flare- back coat makes a woman look like a walking teepee, the variety of which even a squaw wouldn't be proud. There is nothing dressy or smart about the coat. Its length is far below that which is com- monly approved. THE HOOD, which has received less comment, possibly because it is worn less frequently, appears to be an attempt at giving women tJb'1 Daily-Lmanian FALL STYLES-Members of the Wives of Student Veterans' Club model fashions at the style show presented last Tuesday at the University Center.
