More than first places will be at stake, however, for the losing team must furnish the victors with pie-and-ice cream in a get-togeth- er in the Union Cafeteria tomor- row afternoon. At the same meeting the members of the squad will bal- lot for the vacant position of captain of the 1946-47 season. The new leader will fill the shoes of last year's captain, El- mer Swanson,' low hurdler and baseball catcher who signed with the Detroit Tigers last summer. The mile run opens the eve- ning's festivities, and it promises to be a close race between the Blues and Gold entrants. For the Blue-clads Herb Barten, confer- ence indoor 880 champion, Don Queller, Joe Hayden, and Dave Hess will face Dave Williams, for- mer Georgetown distance ace, Chuck Low, Dean Voegtlen. A flock of dashers are ready to sprint off the blocks in the 60-yard semi-finals, vying for positions in the finals which will be run after the 440, third event on the program. The quarter-mile will be a dog-fight between Hugh Short and Mel Detwiler of the Blues and Dick Forrestal and George Shepherd of the Golds. The high hurdles are a wide- open affair with Bill Osgood and Bob Lindquist,'who have made top showings in recent time trials, ap- pearing as favorites. The lows, the next-to-last event, are equal- ly undecided, with Leroy Daggs, Chuck Lauritsen, and Jack Mar- tin having the best times to date. Charlie Birdsall and Rog Kes- sler are the main cogs in the Blue two-mile contingent, but they face a tough assignment in going after the Golds' Justin Williams and Fred Stoiker. In the half-mile it will be Quel- ler and Hayden of the Blues against George Vetter, Low and Williams. In the field events, Chuck Fonville of the Blues will be fa- vored in the shot-put, with Gold Pete Dendrinos following close behind. Fonville and Bob Harris carry the Blue hopes in the high jump against Bob Gardner and Bill McNab. Chuck Lauritsen, Ifack Coplin, and Max Kelly form a strong aggregation for the Blues in the pole-vault, facing Gene Moody and Ulves- tad of the Golds. The student body and general public will be admitted free to the meet, Coach Ken Doherty an- nounced. Read and Use The Daily Classifieds! Light Lunches ...SOUPS .SALADS ' '.
