~1ND~YNoVK~mo,~m~eTHIIC~MUIAN DATI Sonny Dunham To Be Featured At 'Open Sesame' Bal I Nov. 29' 'Open Secame,' the 1946 presenta- tion of Panhel Bari, will highlight Thanksgiving weekend from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Friday, November 29 in Wat- erman Gymnasium. The music of Sonny Dunham and his orchestra, noted for its rhythmic appeal in hot and sweet arrange- ments, will be featured at the ball. Sonny Dunham is recognized in music circles as an accomplished trumpet and trombone player but prefers to feature the whole band rather than himself. Late permission will be granted until 1:30 a.m. for the women at- tending 'Open Sesame.' The af fair will be semi-formal and men owning tuxedos are urged to wear them. Tickets for this woman-bid dance will go on sale Tuesday in the soror- ity houses through panhellenic rep- resentatives. This ball is the oppor- tunity for affiliated women to do the inviting and repay their dates. Refreshments for the dancers will be available in Barbour Gymnasium and a novel arrangement for groups to sit out dances has been planned. The committee plans to go all out on a pre-war basis in planning elabor- ate decorations on the 'Open Ee- same" theme. The general dance committee is headed by Polly Thompson, Alpha Phi and assisted by Kay McCord, Pi Beta Phi, who is also in charge of finance, Jane Quail, Delta Delta Delta is chairman of thepatrons committee and Jean Lee Van League Dance Aides Will Meet A mass meeting for all League dance class hostesses will be held at 5 p.m. Monday. in the League Ball- room. Miss Ethel McCormick, Social Di- rector of the League, and Mr. John Gwin, former Arthur Murray instruc- tor, will speak. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the progress of the classes and to clarify any ques- tions which may have arisen. One meeting will be held each se- mester for the nearly 200 women as- sisting with the classes. This meet- ing will also enable the hostesses to meet the dance captains. Dance cap- tains are: Tassie Dempsey, Dorothy Ellis, Corrine Firth, Barbara Holland, Nancy Mussleman, and Mildred Rans- dorf. WAA Notices WAA Club meetings for this week will be held as follows: Archery Club: The tournament will begin at 5 p.m. Monday down- stairs in the WAB. Practice for be- ginners and the tournament will be held at 4:45 p.m. in the WAB. Hockey Club: the game with Yp- silanti Normal will be played at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday at Palmer Field. A reg- ular practice meeting will be held at 4:45 p.m. Thursday at Palmer. Camp Counselors' Club: organiza- tional meeting at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the WAB lounge. Crop and Saddle: group II rides at 7 p.m. Wednesday and Group I at 7 p.m. Thursday. Swimming Club: meeting at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Union pool. Quarter-final and semi-final games in the WAA interhouse tour- nament are scheduled to be played this week: Tuesday: Kappa Alpha Theta I vs. Jordan II, Jordan I vs. Gamma Phi Beta at 5:10 p.m.; Willow Run vs. Zone V, Chi Omega vs. Alpha Omi- cron Pi at 7:30 p.m. Thursday: Winner of Willow Run- Zone V game vs. winner of Jordan I- Gamma Phi Beta game, winner of Chi Omega-Alpha Omicron Pi game vs. winner of Kappa Alpha Theta I-Jor- dan II game at 7:30 p.m. Bowling Lessons Will Be Offered To All Beginners Bowling instruction will be offered to beginners by the WAA Bowling Club at 3:15 p.m. Wednesday in the Ann Arbor Recreation alleys. Those who wish to improve their techniques and plan to bowl regularly with the club are urged to take ad- vantage of this practice period. Dues for bowling are $3.00 per semester, to cover the cost of renting the alleys. Team and league bowling begins Nov. 18, and will be held at 3 p.m. each Monday, Tuesday, and Wednes- day until Dec. 18. Recognition will be awarded for high point team and individual scorers. The Bowling Club is also a member of the intercollegi- ate association, to which the ten top scores are sent four times a year. Gwen Sperlich, 2-3494, is in charge of bowling activities. Members must attend meetings regularly in order to hold their club membership, accord- ing to Miss Sperlich, and they should sign up immediately in order to be eligible for league competition. Meeting To Be Held For Housemothers The League house mothers will hold a meeting Monday in the League, at which Mrs. Mary C. Bromage, Assist- ant Dean of Women, will preside. Jean Louise Hole, chairman of Women's Judiciary, will speak, and Miss Marie D. Hartwig, Associate Su- pervisor of Physical Education will discuss opportunities for league houses to participate in intramural athletic activities. The house mothers will give reports on the open houses and social activi- ties which they have sponsored so far this semester, with a view to planning future activities. League Open House The League will open. the Grand Rapids Room to students for Sun- day evening social hours from 4:30 to 10:30 p.m. beginning Nov. 11. The purpose of the open house is to provide an informal meeting place for student use on Sunday evenings. Music and cards will be provided for the guests. There will be no charge for the use of the facilities, but contribu- tions for purchasing additional rec- ords or cards may be made.
