A group of discharged instruc- tors of the dance from the local Arthur Murray studio-engaged in fighting what they term "a lock- out"-are turning loose with side- walk sambas these spring eve- nings. It may be in the good old tra- dition of getting publicity, but the light-footed lassies who made up the show form a mighty attractive advertising attempt. The bill has not been acted on as yet. Last week at Illinois a new president, George D. Stoddard, was officially installed. He took office at a colorful ceremany attended by the state's governor, Dwight Green. The new president said he advo- cates less specialization in studies and great understanding of relat- ed subjects. Wallace faced a group of one hundred college newspapermen in his New Republic magazine of- fices in a precedent-making col- legiate press interview sponsored by the Columbia Spectator. Repre- sentatives of more than sixty East- ern colleges attend the confer- ence. The conference was held just be- fore Wallace began his tour of col- lege campuses this month. Class elections were held by the students at Ohio State University last week. An entire OSPA slate (non-independent) was elected in what was termed "the lighest vote in years." Thirty-four students chosen from more than 200' applicants by a faculty committee at the Uni- versity of Minnesota, will study this summer in four European countries, England, France, Swe- den and Spain. The seminar group will work under the supervision of faculty members and will seek in- formation on current European problems relating to their fields of study. At Bloomington, Indiana, a three-day Race Relations Institute was conducted last week, featuring Norman Thomas, five time candi- date of the Socialist Party for President of the United States. The Institute was sponsored byI the campus AVC and other groups1 at the University of Indiana. Local church groups will meet for suppers and discussions today. BISHOP LESLIE MARSTON MCF To HearI Bishop Speak Religious Leader TO Address Gathering "An Examination of. the Christ- ian Experience" will be the sub- ject of a talk by Bishop Leslie Marston, widely-known religious leader, at the meeting of the Michigan Christian Fellowship at 4:30 p.m. today in Lane Hall. Bishop Marston is president of the Commission on Christian Ed- ucation of the Free Methodist Church, and also served for two years as president of the Nation- al Association of Evangelicals. A graduate of Greenville Col- lege, his early career was in the fields of science and higher edu- cation. He is an authority on child psychology and has written several books on that subject.
