;MAY 23, 1947 1 THE MICHIGAN DAILY 'M-47' Jurgen Senior Ball Will I Building Feature Today at WIN Couples will dance to the music of Dick Jurgens and his orchestra from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. today at the Intramural Building when the senior class presents "M-47," the last all-campus formal dance of the year. . As a special feature of the Sen- ior Ball, chairs will be set up in Ferry Field and refreshments will be served out-of-doors. A public address system will carry Dick Jurgens' music outside. Dancers may get refreshments inside the Intramural Building from ginger ale dispensers which will be set up around the dance floor. Novel dance programs in the form of miniature road maps will serve as favors for womexC guests at Senior Ball. The nr..ps will open up to reveal a map showing a stu- dents-eye view of the campus. The theme of "M-47" will be nostalgic, and will highlight re- minders of college days with typi- cal highway advertisements. Bill- boards bearing commercial signs, Varga girls and funny sayings will be part of the highway theme. Decorations will include stop signs and blinker lights borrowed from the Ann Arbor police department. Replicas of well-known Ann Ar- bor stores, iheatres and meeting places will line the dance floor. One end of the floor will be trans- formed into a miniature arboretum in which the patrons will be seat- ed. Dancers will have the vantage point of automobile passengers riding along a country highway. Women students have been granted 2:45 a.m. permission for the formal affair. The committee requests that no corsages be worn at Senior Ball. Dick Jurgens is well known on the West Coast and in the Mid- west where he has toured hotels, theatres and ballrooms. In addi- tion to his work as band leader and arranger, Jurgens has written many hit tunes, including "Do You Care," "Careless," and "El- mer's Tune." The band has ap- peared on many network radio broadcasts and was featured on the Fitch Bandwagon and Spot- light Band shows. Bob Grandy is chairman of the 1947 Senior Ball committee which was chosen by the class officers. Other committee heads are: Dick Chenowith and Frank Boni, pub- licity; Marge Kohlhasse and Bob Pear, building and grounds; Lois Iverson, programs; Jerry Comer, budget; Cliff Myll, refreshments; Hank Kaiser, music; Nancy Loud and Marilyn Holten, tickets;Joan Schlee and Don Larson, decora- tions; and Jeanne Busch, patrons. Names of Rushing Aides Announced I Panhellenic Association has an- nounced the names of its newly elected rushing aides. They are Jean Blinn, Kappa Kappa Gamma; Corinne Schield, Alpha Omicron Pi; Jean Lee Van Leeuwen, Gamma Phi Beta; Joyce Gould, Alpha Epsilon Phi: and Shirley Kallman, Sigma Delta Tau. The rushing chairman of Pan- hellenic Association will contact them about the next meeting. Sigma Alpha Epsilon Plans Spring Dance Sigma Alpha Epsilon is planning "Black and White Ball." which will be held from 9 p.m. to midnight Thursday, at the Washtenaw Country Club. All women attending will wear white formals to carry out the title of the dance. "Black and White Ball" has been a traditional spring formal in the southern col- lege chapters of SAE, but the Michigan chapter is the first of the big nine mid-western colleges to sponsor this type of an affair. Buddy Rich and his orchestra of sixteen pieces will play for the dance. Featured will be Allen Eager, on the tenor saxophone; Earl Swope, trombone player; and Tommy Allison, on the trumpet. Three buses have been hired from the University to carry SAE guests to the country club. There will be a meeting for all new members of Wyvern at 1 p.m. Saturday in the League. The room will be posted on the bulletin board. The Executive Council of the Union will sponsor "Bluebook Ball" from 9 to 12 p.m. Saturday, May 31 in the Union ballroom. Frank Tinker and his orches- tra will provide the music for dancing, and intermission enter- tainment is being planned. The program will be announced later. Decorations will center on a bluebook theme, and programs will be miniature bluebooks. This will be the nextrto the last dance to be held at the Union this term. Engagement Told Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Hayes of Cleveland, have announced the engagement of their daughter, Pa- tricia, to James A. O'Connor, son of Mr. and Mrs.sA. J. O'Connor of Wenatchee, Wash. Miss Hayes is retiring president of Delta Delta Delta, vice-presi- dent of the senior class and is a nember of Scroll and Zeta Phi Eta. Mr. O'Connor will graduate from Law School in July and is a member of Phi Delta Phi and Bar- risters. No date has been set for the wedding. To Union Dance, Be Held Casbah Holds Final Dances This Week end The Campus Casbah will be open from 9 p.m. to midnight to- day and tomorrow in the League Ballroom, marking the close of the season of weekend dances. Al Townsend and his band, fea- turing Cliff Hoff, tenor sax, and Lois Roberts, vocalist, will pro- vide music for dancing. During intermission guests will be entertained by Lynn Wohlge- muth singing songs from recent musical comedies. Miss Wohlge- muth is a student in the School of Music and has appeared at the Casbah several times. The program will also feature the comedy team of Warren Rob- bins and Hazen Schumacher, who have appeared at campus dances recently.
