THE MICHIGAN DAILY Coeds May Register for fAssembly Recognition Night Committeework Independent women, including sec- ond semester freshmen, may still sign up for committeework for Assembly Recognition Night to be held at the end of this month. There will be a Recognition Night' booth set up from 1 p. m. to 5 p. m. tomorrow and Tuesday in the League for the registration of committee workers. There are eight central com- mittees which are in need of volun- teer workers. Wilhelm Heads Committee The decorations committee; head-' ed by Dorothy Wilhelm, will begin work immediately. Women may sign up for this committee who are inter-' ested in drawing, painting and creat-, ive work. A large committee is necessary forI the efficient administration of the, publicity committee, of which Dolores Massey is chairman. Publicity work will entail posters and skits. Committee Needs Workers The ticket committee has Judith Pregerson as its chairman. Coeds are urged to sign up for work on this essential committee. The war activi- ties awards committee with Shirley Hansen in charge needs many work- ers. The work consists of tabulating League House Teas To Be Qiven As Part of Independent Fortnight the hours of all independent womer spent in doing extra curricular activi- ties. The coeds with the greatest number of hours will be honored ak the Recognition Night program. The refreshment committee is under the direction of Margery Har- rington, assistant general chairman. Many coeds are needed for work on this committee since surprise serving system is to be used. Outstanding Coeds Honored The scholarship awards committee, headed by Sarah Simons, will review scholarship ratings and decide the three outstanding independent women to be recognized for- their scholastic averages. The program and patron commit- tees with Alice Berberian and Mar- garet Thompson as the respective chairmen, require women who are in- terested in helping with the work of each. Each committee will begin work im- mediately and any additional infor- mation concerning the work of any Recognition Night committee may be obtained at the booth. Questions concerning Recognition Night will be also answered. WAA Notices WAA Sponsors Sports Meeting For Managers Athletic managers of all sororities, ormiteries, and league houses on rampus will meet at; 4:15 p. m. Tues- day. in the Lounge of the Women's Athletic Building to plan the inter- biouse sports tournaments. The tournaments will start on Mon- day, Nov. 12, Barbara Osborne, pres- ident of WAA, announced yesterday. 'Eachmanager should have her pref- rence for game times in the volley- ball tournament, which will open in-' terhicuse competition for the year. The games are to be played at 5:10 p.m., 7:20 p. m., and 8:00 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays in Barbour Gym. Every house must be represented at the meeting which will be con- ducted by interhouse manager Jean Brown. After the general group meeting, at which Miss Osborne will welcome the managers, separate meetings will be held by Ann Lippen- cott, sorority manager, Ann Waller- stein, dormitory manager, and Janet Cork, manager for league houses. Any house manager who is not able to attend should send another represent- ative to the tournament meeting. Petitioning for Merit-Tutorial, Soph Cabaret Heads Is Open Petitioning for the position of chairman of the Merit-Tutorial Com- mittee and for the position of Dance chairman of the Sophomore Cabaret is now open. The chairmansnip of the Merit- Tutorial Committee is open to all seniors who have participated in League activities for at least a year. In her petition the candidate must illustrate complete knowledge of her prospective position as a member of League Council and as chairman of her own committee by consulting the bound copies of the President's Re- ports in the League Library. For a more thorough understanding of her position, the prospective chairman should read the Constitution of the League which will be posted on the bulletin board in the Undergraduate Office. An explanation of the duties of the chairman of Merit-Tutorial Committee will also be posted in the Undergraduate Office. Petitions may be secured from the Social Director's Office in the League and must be returned by noon Satur- day to the Undergraduate Office. Interviewing dates will be posted Fall Flannels Membership in the Flannels on Fri- day club has been growing more rap- idly than anyone could have predict- ed, it was revealed yesterday by Mar- sha Tyme, club president. The movement, designed to permit flannel slacks in Friday afternoon classes, has met sharp opposition from the varsity cheerleaders, who are pro- moting a back-to-nature movement with pleated skirts as their first ob- jective. The Daily interviewed hundreds of people to get some campus opinion on the issue, but nobody knew anything about it. by Tuesday in the &eague and will also appear in the Daily. Each inter- viewee will be allotted ten minutes during which time she will be ex- pected to answer questions concern- ing her prospective position. The position of Dance Chairman of Sophomore Cabaret is open to all sophomores. The candidates for this position must state their danc- ing experience in their petitions and be prepared to present a sam- ple of their talent at the interview. Petitions may be secured from the Social Director's Office in the League and must be returned by 5:30 p.m., Tuesday to the Undergraduate Of- fice. Interviewing will take place 3 to 5 p.m., Wednesday. Those interested must sig their appointment times on the interviewing sheet in the Under- graduate Office. Eligibility cards must be presented at all interviews with the name of her housemother and an upper classman as reference. Soph Meeting To Be Thursday A mass meeting for all sophomore women, sponsored by Soph Project and Soph Cabaret, will be held at 8 p. m. Thursday in the League Bttll- room. At the meeting both the Hospital project and Cabaret will be explained to the members of the class of '48. Cynthia Coates, chairman of Soph Project, will explain the work that is done in the hospitals, and Jean Grin- gle, general chairman of Cabaret, will tell of the organization, purpose, and work of this project. Miss Gringle will be assisted by five members of the central committee, who will ex- plain in further detail the various aspects of Cabaret. Preference slips may be signed at the meeting. Mosher Plans Party The coeds of Mosher Hall, will give a "Hard Times Get-Together" party tomorrow night. As a part of "Independent Fort- night," to be presented by Assembly Association, there will be'a series of teas given for smaller League Houses at 4 p. m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, and the Wednesday and Monday following, in the League. Teas Planned Groups of League Houses, to be in- vited by a zone plan, will attend the teas, at which the purpose and activi- ties of Assembly will be explained. Members of the Assembly Board will point out the place for independent women in their organization. A complete schedule of the zone groups will be published in the Daily, and individual invitations will be sent to each house president. Any inde- pendent woman however is invited to attend any one of the teas whether or not her house has been specifically invited. Zones To Be Announced The zone plan will also be a basis for exchange activities which As- sembly hopes to initiate this year, and as soon as the complete list of dor- mitories, auxiliary dormitories, and League Houses is available, the zones will be announced. "Independent Fortnight" will open at 8 p. m. Monday, Nov. 12, at the League with a mass meeting, at which a Michigan quiz show, skits, and songs will be featured. , i I ... A meeting for those interested in becoming members of the Daily staff will be held at 4 p. m. Mon- day in the conference room of the Student Publications building.
