(Continued from Page 1) June. 1944, he went to Boguio, a city 150 miles from Manila to which the Philippine puppet government was moved in Dec., 1944. "The saturation bombing began on March 15," Narcisco remarked, "and we left the next day. After walking over narrow mountain trails three days and nights to reach a liberated town, he said, on March 28, 1945, we saw our first glorious sign of libera- tion-a jeep!" Listing the vital problems fac- ing the people of the Philippines today, Capt. Delfin Sian stressed the need for cooperation. "This is important because it affects the Philippines in the eyes of the world," he said. Other problems facing the Filipino people today are the question of independence, the restoration of peace and order, rehabilitation, and moral depres- sion. "Who, me?" I answered, "I'm from the 'Daily." I came to do a feature on the Navy's musical comedy, "Anchors Away." "Why didn't you say so," Carl Hem- mer, director of the show, said as he reached into his pocket for a cigar. "Here,-have one, have two. No, on second thought, here's a complimen- tary pass to the show Wednesday night. Yes sir, your fifty-cent piece and our compliments. "Why don't you sit here in this plush chair and soak up a little at- mosphere. (At this point he pro- duced a blotter with an "Anchors Away" advertisement on the front.) I'm pretty busy, but if you want me just whistle." He dug again and came up with a bosun's pipe which was cleverly attachedy means of a four- foot length of anchor chain to a pic- ture of Lauren Bacall. On the back of the picture was another adver- tisement for the show. I seated myself and casually looked around. I was startled to notice that the organ pipes were nowhere to be seen. "Hey," I shouted to Russel Duff, production manager who was sitting next to me, "This is Hill Auditorium, isn't it? What hap ned to the organ pipes? Doctor Christian is going to be awfully excited when he finds out you took out the organ pipes." "They're not out," Duff assured me me. "In this scene we use the 3,000 square feet backdrop. Excuse me for a moment," he said, "I've got to see where they put thatrailroad car." "Railroad car? In here? You mean the New York Central is going to run a track through the auditorium?" "No," Duff answered. "We just borrowed a pullman for the evening. There's the porter now. We had to take him with the car." "How'd you get it in here?" I asked. "We did have a little trouble there," he admitted. "They wanted to bring it in sideways, but of course that meant we would have had to rip out the side wall. If you want me just whistle." He started to hand me another whistle, but I told him that I already had one." I moved over to where Commander Fitch was standing. "How are things coming?" I asked. "Excellently," he smiled, "I just came over to help out a bit. I can't tell you how pleasantly surprised I am to find that the show is running along smoothly. It's a rather large undertaking. As far as I know, this is the first show of its kind ever to be held on the campus. My position is merely to help things run smoothly. Lt. Bowman is the show's advisor. He can probably answer some of your questions about the cast." Lt. Bowman is the show's guiding hand. "We've got professional talent as well as local. Our dancing team will be talked about for quite awhile," he assured me. "They are doing a specialty along the lines of the De- Marcos. It's said that the DeMarcos have .heard of Bill and Nancy (the dancing team) and I don't know if they're worried yet, but they're prob- ably anxious." As I left the auditorium, I care- fully tucked away my presents. The only thing that bothers me is how to blow the whistle. I won- der if it's one of those wooden ones that won't. ii III CLA~~EFit~icn vAIvI1'uINtG Get your Senior Picture to the Ensian Office by January 10t . FOR SALE FOR SALE: New Tuxedo, size 38.
