PACE FIVE Sale of Tickets for Assembly Recognition Night Ends Today Outstanding Women To Receive Awards Sale of Assembly Recognition Night tickets will continue until 5 p. m. today in the dormitories, larger league houses and the League. "Launching into a New Year" has been chosen as the theme of Recognition Night which will be held at 8 p. m. Thursday in the League ballroom. Outstanding in- dependent women will be honored for scholastic and extra curricular achievements of last year. Dr. Theodore M. Newcomb of the sociology department will be the guest speaker. Dr. Newcomb, who has re- cently returned to the University af- ter helping direct a study of German morale for the War Department, will discuss "Social Atavism in the Atom- ic Age." Registrar Ira M. Smith will pre- sent scholarship awards to the top coeds in each class. Nora Mac- Laughlin, League Council president, will give awards to independent women who have done outstanding Tryouts Will Begin Tomorrow for JGP Tryouts for singing and dancing parts in Junior Girls Play will be held tomorrow, Thursday, and Friday at the League. Sin gitg tryouts will open from 2 p. m. to 4 p. m. tomorrow and will con- tinue from 3 p. m. to 5 p. m. Thurs- day. Dancing parts will be tried out from 3 p. m. to 5 p. m. Thursday and from 2 p. m. to 4 p. m. Friday. Dramatic tryouts will begin next week, according to Carolyn Daley, chairman of the play. Eligibility cards and receipts for junior class dues should be presented at the time of all try-outs. Petitions Due For Tea Dance Coke Bar Posts Petitions for the central commit- tee for the league house tea dances and chairman of the coke bar are due at 5 p.m. today in the Assembly box in the League undergraduate office. The coke bar chairman will be in charge of Assembly's soft drink con- cession at all the big dances. Any eligible independent woman may pe- tition for the position. The central committee, in co-op- eration with the Union, will plan and direct the informal tea dances to be held Saturdays. League houses will be invited to a specific dance according to the zone plan. The gen- eral chairman will direct the com- mittee and decide which league houses are to be invited to each dance. The assistant chairman will send invitations and checks eligibility of committee members. Other positions available are those of the chairman of the publicity. ticket, program, and refreshment committees.
