Gay Color Runs Riot in New Shoes For Spring Wear Bright and brief is the slogan for all kinds of footwear. This spring and summer shoes will come in deli- cious colors with new styled cuts. Shiny gay leathers and suedes of every color will adorn many feet and will go nicely with cotton dresses, summer suits, and playclothes. Those who aren't lucky enough to own an extra ration stamp will be able to find similar styles and colors in plain and novelty fabrics. The most popular non-rationed materials are multi-colored raffin weaves and gabardines in solid colors or with floral or Indian designs woven in by hand. Sling backs and open toes will be the trend in cut. Wedges are still popular this year and will have new possibilities in the studded wedge heel or wedge of contrasting color to the top of the shoe. Because of leath- er rationing the thick rope sole is also becoming very popular. Strap styles are coming into their own. Straps will vary from the nar- row interwoven straps to the wide bands that cross the arch. The slip- per style shoe with the single broad band over the instep that came out several seasons ago will be varied with decorative studs and fancy cut- outs.
