The score also was deadlocked at the half, 25 to 25, when Northwestern spurted just before the intermission to ring up five points. Ralph Pohland, the former Min-e- sota ace half-rmiler', shattei'ed the 880-yard record by finishing two yards ahead of Michigan's John Roxborough and was clocked in 1:59.9. After fighting it out all the way, he began to forge ahead on the last turn, and held his lead to the finish line. Segula Ties Mark , Bob Segula, Michigan's stalwart pole vaulter, and Phil Anderson of Notre Dame tied for first with vaults of 12 feet, six inches, tying the meett record established in 1939.
