TIE MICHIGAN DAILY SUNDAY, MAY 7 1944 Jerry Walds Orchestra To Play It Boulevard Ball Joint Affair For May 27 Is Scheduled Sorority, Independent Women To Sponsor All-Campus Event; Date Bureau To Be Organized Jerry Wald, "clarinet-player de- luxe," and his orchestra will be fea- tured at "Boulevard Ball," which will be given jointly by Panhellenic Coun- cil and Assembly, independent wo- men's organization, from 9 p.m. to midnight, May 27, in Waterman Gymnasium. "Boulevard Ball," the first dance to be given jointly by sorority and independent woman, is the only all- campus event to which coeds invite men. A date bureau is being organ- ized by thd Ball committee, and plans for registration will be announced next week. The tickets will go on sale soon, and the campus custom of ban- ning corsages will be followed. Skit To Be Featured Decoratiops, which are being planned by Barbara Moore, '44Ed, and Betsy Perry, '45A, will carry out the theme of. "Boulevard Ball," and Waterman Gymnasium will be turned into @, park from which such streets as "Kappa Court" and "Stockwell Street" will radiate. As a special feature, entertainment has been planned for the intermission period. A skit with original music which will carry out the theme of the dance will be presented, and com- munity singing will follow. A new plan is being initiated by the patrons committee, headed by Lenore Chaice, '46, and Nora MacLaughlin, '46, which will be announced shortly. A meeting will be held at 4:30 p.m. tomorrow in the League for all coeds interested in working on the patrons committee. Wilkins, Sharpe Head Committee The central committee is headed by Florene Wilkins, '45, who was recently chosen president of Assem- bly Board, and Marcia Sharpe, '45A, a member of Panhellenic Council. Alice Ann Ritchie, '45BA, and Jane Archer, '46, are in charge ofi finances. New Softball Rules Listed by Manager Of Softball Groupf New rules for the 1944 Softball Tournament have been announced by Pat Daniels, '46, manager of the Soft- ball Club, and these regulations will apply to all games in the contest. All games will be played on Palmer Field with a minimum team of seven and a maximum team of ten, Miss Daniels said. There should be no defaults unless theteam has notified her before 1:30 p.m. of the day on which they were to play. All houses are to plan to play on the day assigned, and, if the weather is uncertain, they are to call the WAB after 3:30 p.m. to find out if the game will take place as scheduled. All games will be posted on the bulletin board of the WAB, as well as all rules for the tournament. Lantern Night Leaders Will Meet Thursday Song leaders for the WAA Lantern Night will meet at 5 p.m. Thursday in the correctives room of Barbour Gymnasium to draw for places on the program and to file the names of the selections to be sung by their respec- tive houses, Shelby' Dietrich, '45, president of WAA, announced yester- day. A traditional ceremony honoring the senior women, WAA Lantern Night Sing, which will be held at 7:30 p.m., May 22, offers an opportunity for houses on campus to display their musical talents, with the best one awarded a cup to commemorate the event. All women on campus will meet in front of the library at 7 p.m. on the night of the Sing. Seniors will be dressed in caps and gowns, and the underclassmen will wear different- colored hair bows, representing their houses. The line of march will then proceed to Palmer Field, where the singing will take place. Highlight of the evening will be the warding of the WAA Participation Cup to the house which has the most WAA participation points earned by its residents The committee for the Lantern Night is headed by Miss Dietrich, who is assisted by Pat Dillenbeck, '45, songs, Jean Gaffney, '46, in charge of line of march and lanterns, and Jean Brown, '46, patrons.
