--MlCIIIG-AN DAILY ACEFIV Assembly Ball Will Be Held Jan. 9 In League Ballroom Iterviewing For Committee Beg ins Dec. 8 Elimination Of Decorations, Big Orchestra Will Increase Bomber Sch'olarship Donation Saturday, Jan. 9 in the League Ballroom is the date and place set by Assembly Executive Council for Assembly's annual ball, Betty New- man, '43, president, announced yes- terday, thus making it one of the last big dances to be given this semes- ter. The affair has been moved up on short notice from its customary spyring date in order to give mid-year graduates a chance to attend. Peti- tioning and interviewing for commit- tee positions will also be squeezed into one week instead of two, so that there will be more time to organize dance plans. Bring Petitions to Interviews Instead of submitting petitions be- forehand, all those trying out should bring them to their interviews, which will be held from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 8 through Friday, Dec. 11 in the Undergraduate Office of the League, according to Miss New- man. Positions open for petitioning are general chairman, assistant general chairman, program chairman, pa- trons chairman, tickets chairman and publicity chairman. Second se- mester freshmen, sophomores, jun- iors and seniors are eligible to peti- tion. Council to Officiate All interviewing will be conducted by the Executive Council, consisting of Miss Newman, Dorothy, Schloss, '43, vice-president; Mar'y Moore, '43, secretary; Roberta Holland, '43, treasurer, and Jean Conway, '43, president of the league house group. Though last year Assembly fea- tured its triangle crest in ballroom decorations, and Bernie Cummins' orchestra furnished the music, there will be no decorations this time, and no out-pf-town orchestra. Instead of investing in these features all pro- ceeds will go to the Bomber-Scho- larship fund. Stork Pays Byrnr Household A Visit Capt. and Mrs. Robert Byrn of Camp Grant, Ill., announce the birth of a daughter, Carol Lynn. Mrs. Byrn, who graduated from the University last January, was affiliated with Al- pha Phi while on campus. Capt. Byrn was graduated from the University Medical School and served his internship at University Hospital before entering the Army Medical Corps. Songs, Scripts For JQP Must Be In By Tuesday After Tuesday it will be too late for any aspiring song or script writers to enter JGP's skit and song contest, Lucy Chase Wright, '44, announced; for on that day all entries must be turned in at Miss McCormick's office in the League. Although designed for the purpose of selling war bonds and stamps, skits may be of any theme but of lim- ited length. Songs, on the other hand, should pertain to the war theme in order to further bond and stamp sales. All students, both men and women, are eligible to enter this contest, and one person may turn in any number of entries. Instead of boxtops and labels, one 10 cent war stamp is re- quired with each skit or song which is entered in the competition. Following the idea of JGP, prize for the contest will be a dollar defense stamp, as well as a chance to have the skit or song considered for a Sunday morning broadcast. More- over, the skits will be used as enter- tainment at various campus func- tions, including Senior Banquet. "We are looking for a theme song," Miss Wright announced. She empha- sized the fact that a catchy tune is what is needed. "Be a triple-threat student," she continued. "Have fun writing, win a prize, and promote the sale of defense bonds and stamps." A publicity man' at the movie company where the blonde star works wired the Atlanta Con- stitution to confirm the request. When Richardson was questioned, he denied sending the originalwifre but thought it was "a good idea." So, Richardson, a sophomore may be the very willing "victin" of a prank.
