Take an interesting background,
flavor well with wit, add a dash of
charm, sprinkle with a bit .of the
sublime and the ridiculous, and the
resulting personality will be that of,
Ilka Chase, who will be presented by
the Oratorical' Association Dec. 7 at
Hill Auditorium.
While the title of Miss Chase's lec-
ture is "The Psychology of Being a
Woman," it is likely to touch upon
anything of interest to modern wo-
men. Her talks are as informal as
her radio show, and as spontaneous
as though she were gossiping with a
friend on the telephone.
Miscellaneous Topics
Included in the lecture will be com-
mentaries on styles, celebrities, hu-
man foibles, the secrets of charm-pr
anything else that might happen :to
"pop" into her head at the moment,
all presented in the distinctive Ilka
Chase manner.
The radio, the stage, and the screen,
each claim her as a member of their

Committee To Meet Tomorrow
in League To Give Acts, Dances
The central committee of the Jun-
ior Project is taking no chances that
this year's JGP loses any of the
glamour of those of the past, for the
skit committee will meet at 5 p.m. to-
morrow in the League under the di-
rection of Rae Larsen, '44Ed.
Dancing choruses, comedies, and
songs will be practiced the same as
in years before, for the junior women
plan to have two or three skits at a
time ready to be given at dances and
parties in Ann Arbor. The skit com-
mittee will become a bureau from
which a variety of entertainers may
be engaged by any campus or city
group.
"We need a number of dancers,
singers, actresses, musicians, and skit
writers. As the dances and songs will
be mostly chorus work average ability
is sufficient although we will welcome
soloists as well," Miss Larsen stated.
No remuneration will be asked for
the entertainment, but the commit-
tee hopes that the skits will help to
increase the stamp and bond sales in
Ann Arbor. It is still possible to enter
the skit and song contest which was
announced two weeks ago, and in
which the winner will be presented
with a dollar defense stamp and a
chance to hear his or her skit over
the air.

program, for which she writes the
script, selects the guests, and con-
ducts the program. Miss Chase has
spent many seasons working in Holly-
wood, and is being seen throughout
the country in "Now Voyager" at the
present time.
Stage Is "True Love"
However, her "one true love" is the
stage, where she can feel an actual
ccntact with her audience. She is,
perhaps, best remembered for her role
of catty Sylvia Fowler in Clare
Boothe's "The Women." In recent
years,,practically. every sophisticated
comedy on Broadway has included
the presence of Ilka Chase.
Born into the fashion world, as
the daughter of Edna Woolman
Chase, Miss Chase has left her mark
in this realm as -a fashion commen-
tator-and writer.
.Included in Miss Chase's "extra-
curricular activities," are singing les-
sons, the management of a household,
and politics; she is a charter mem-
ber of the American Theatre Wing's
Allied Relief Fund. In her "spare"
moments, she wrote the current best-
seller, "Past Imperfect," which she
calls a "kind of biography."
Recently, a friend commented on
the book by saying, "I enjoyed your
book, Ilka; who wrote it for you?"
Miss.Chase rep) ed, "I'm glad you en-
joyed it-who read it to you?"

Club Tomorrow
Headed by Nancy Upson, '44, well-
known campus skater, a new WAA
Figure Skating club will be organized,
the first meeting of which will be held
at 4 p.m. tomorrow in the fencing
room at Barbour Gymnasium.
Anyone interested is invited to at-
tend this mass meeting, which will
be devoted to making general plans,
such as setting the time of regular
meetings, which will be held at the
Coliseum, and the amount of dues.
Members of the club need not have
had any previous experience, nor be
skilled in the sport, but must possess
a pair of figure skates.
The club will belong to the National
Amateur Figure Skating Association
and will function as a branch of the
Ann Arbor figure skating organiza-
tion also. Plans have been made for
an ice carnival to be held neat spring
at the Coliseum.
If anyone is interested but unable
to attend this meeting, she is asked to
contact Miss Upson.
Hiking Group
Will Sponsor
Overnight Trip
There'll be no turning back once
the group gets started on the 12 mile
hike at 1 p.m. Saturday from Hill
Auditorium to Saline Valley Hostel,
according to Dorothy Lundstrdm, '45,
and Dan Saulson, '44, co-chairmen of
the Outdoor Sports club.
Anyone interested is invited to at-
tend, but is urged to dress warmly
and be prepared for snow or mud.
Theybare asked, also, to bring an
extra blanket and a sheet, for the
group will stay overnight at the hostel
and return about noon Sunday. A
small charge will be made for the hos-
tel privileges and food, and there will
be planned entertainment, including
square dancing, in the evening.
If any people would like to go out
to the hostel Saturday morning, they
are asked to call either of the chair-
men to make necessary arrangements.

To Be Held Today
President and Mrs. Ruthven will
open their home to the campus from
4 p.m. to 6 p.m. today at a tea to
which Chicago House, Psi Upsilon,
Sigma Nu, Victor Vaughan, Mosher
Hall, Gamma Phi Beta and Alpha Phi
are especially invited.
Josephine Fitzpatrick, '44, chair-
man of group two, is directing the
tea. Mrs. Theron S. Langford of
Chicago House and Mrs. Martha Bar-
rett of Psi Upsilon have been asked,
to pour from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., and
Mrs. Frederick C. Klein of Mosher
Hall and Mrs. Leah Roberts of Sigma
Nu will preside from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Women who plan to donate
blood to the Red Cross must have
a physical recheck at the Health
Service from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. to-
day, or 10 a.m. to noon tomorrow.
On the following day they may see
one of the women's physicians at
the Health Service for a report on
the results.
The WAA Badminton Club will
sponsor open play from 7:30 n.m.
