Prof. Preston W. Slosson of the history department gave the keynote speech at the installation banquet, addressing the delegates on "The American College, a Sane Spot in a Mad World." He discussed current events in Europe and included a con- sideration of the position of higher education in this country. Prof. Joseph R. Hayden of the political science department was of- ficial representative of the Universi- ty's chapter, Registrar Ira M. Smith represented the University and Prof. Hazel M. Losh of the astronomy de- partment attended the installation as secretary of the Alpha chapter. Other delegates were Mr. John T. Baldwin of the botany department, representing William and Mary Col- lege; Dean Samuel T. Dana of the forestry school, Bowdoin College; Prof. Benjamin Wheeler of the his- tory department, University of Cali- fornia; Dr. Frank Copley of the Latin department, Stanford University. The debate, which is one of eight planned by the Stump Speakers' So- ciety this year, is conducted on a style vastly different from that used in most high school and college dis- cussions, featuring less formality and an attempt to approximate the de- bate to a business conference. County Jail Doubles For Delta Tau Delta If you call 2-2509 and expect to hear "Delta Tau Delta" when some- one answers the phone, don't be sur- prised if, instead, you hear "Sheriff's Office." Because of an error in re- porting the fraternity phone num- ber, calls are being received at the County Jail causing no end of trouble. How To Kiss' Will Be 'Garg' Feature Storly "How to Kiss-and -Make Them Like It," or "Osculation as an Art" or "Kissing Is Fun"-whatever you chose to call it, there will be an article on that important subject in a prominent place in Thursday's issue of Gargoyle, campus magazine. The author is "Stardust" and he has been called an "expert eminent- ly qualified to discuss the matter at hand" by Dave Donaldson, '41, editor in chief of the magazine, who refuses, however, to divulge the gentleman's or woman's name. Also highlighted in the second issue of the year will be a pictorial feature on the football team, including candid shots of the players in gtion. The winning candid pictures in the contest will appear in this issue. First prize of three dollars was won this time by Robert Merriman, '41.
