TAE SIC 1. A DAILY-- PAGE GM Engineer Will Discuss DieselEngine Speech Society Members Will Analyze Machine's Merits At Meeting Today .Frederick B. Tuttle, project engin- eer of the General Motors diesel di- vion, will present an illustrated lecture on "Diesel Engines" at a meeting of Sigma Rho Tau, honorary engineering speech society, at 7:30 p.in, today in the Union. Following the address, four stu- dents in the society will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of both the two-cycle and four-cycle diesel motors, while Mr. Tuttle will! comment on and criticize the speeches. Students who will take part in the discussion are Alexander Pentland, '42E, John Hammelef, '42E, Dean Woodbury, '42E, and Norman Tay- lor, '42E, all of whom have debated on this topic at previous meetings of the "Stump Speakers' Society." Those in the College of Engineer- ing who are interested in any type of speech work are urged to attend the meeting. According to Vance Mid- dleworth, '41E, publicity director, ev- eryone is eligible to join and partici- pate in the organization's activities whether or not he has had any prev- iobus experience in public speaking or debating. Lieuts. Kolb, Peterson Are Given Promotions Lieut. R. L. Komo, Infantry, and Lieut. L. W. Peterson, Corps of En- gineers, were promoted to the rank of first lieutenant in orders effective February 8. Lieut. Kolb is a graduate of Ripon College and Lieut. Peterson of Michi- gan College of Mining and Technol- ogy. Both have been on duty with the University ROTC unit since the beginning of the school year. T~lEMICHGAN AILYP_. _ _I r IW I Skiers Capture Several Events In Two Meets; Members of the University of Mich- igan Ski Club took several places in an Invitational Meet sponsored by the local club which was held Satur- day on Mount Caberfae in Cadillac. In the downhill race, Max Mueller, of the Caberfae Ski Club and former- ly a member of the Swiss Olympic Ski Team, won first place and Karl Grebe, of the University of Michigan Ski Club, took second place. In the jumping event, Chet Witters, of the University of Michigan Club, took first place with a jump of 59 feet, two inches, and Dave Peters, of the Wisconsin Ski Club, too second. On Sunday, in a meet sponsored by the Caberfae Ski Club in conjunction with the Central U. S. Ski Associa- tion, members of the Michigan Club came through again. In the downhill race, Varl Grebe beat out Max Muel- ler. who fell and finished third; sec- cnd place went to Dave Peters. Muel- ler finished first in the slalom race, while Chet Witters took second and Carl Grebe took third. There will be a meeting of the Ski Club at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the. Union. Plans for an exhibition to be, given at the Winter Carnival will be discussed and plans for future meets and trips will be considered at that time. Local Stamp Club To Hold Exhibition Members of the Ann Arbor Stamp Club and out-of-town philatelists will gather at the Union next Satur- day afternoon for the club's eighth annual exhibition, banquet, and' stamp auction. The exhibition, open to all with- out charge, will begin at 1:30 p.m. and continue until 10 p.m. according to President Edwin Smith, Ann Arbor insurance man. Joseph Rasdale, well-known Mich- igan stamp dealer, will come down from Elsie to conduct the auction. The banquet will begin at 6:15.
