No. 86 Notices Notice to Prospective Payers of Federal Income Tax: Mr. James Cummins, from the office of the Col- lector of Internal Revenue, Detroit, will appear in Hill Auditorium Mon- day, Jan. 22, at 4:15 p.m., to make a statement with respect to general features of the Federal income Tax and to answer individual questions. Every person who is a prospective in- come tax payer and is unfamiliar with any of the requirements, should be present at this meeting. Shirley W. Smith Notice to all Members of the Uni- versity: The following is an extract of a by-law of the Regents (Chapter III-B, Sections 8 and 9) which has been in effect sinceSeptember, 1926: "It will hereafter be regarded as contrary to University policy for any- one to have in his or her possession any key to University buildings or parts of buildings if such key is not stamped as provided (is. by the Buildings and Grounds Department). If such unauthorized keys are found the case shall be referred to the Dean or other proper head of the University division involved for his action in accordance with this prin- ciple. Any watchman or other proper representative of the Buildings and Grounds Department, or any Dean, department head, or other proper University official shall have the right to inspect keys believed to open University buildings, at any reason- able time or place, "-For any individual to order, have made, or permit to be ordered or made, any duplicateof hisor her University key, through unauthorized channels, must be regarded as a spe- cial and willful disregard of the safe- ty of University property." These regulations are called to the attention of all concerned, for their information and guidance. Any per- son having any key or keys to Uni- versity buildings, doors, or ;other locks, contrary to the provisions re-, cided above, should promptly sur- render the same to the Key Clerk at the office of the Department of Buildings and Grounds. SHIRLEY W. SMITH Group Hospitalization: The Busi- ness Office is now accepting, and will continue to accept, further ap- plications for group hospitalization through and including Feb. 5, 1940. If ten or more applications are re- ceived between now and Feb. 5, such applications will be effective as of that date, with a premium deduc- tion from the payroll of February 29. Information and application cards concerning the plan may be obtained at the Business Office. Students and Faculty, College of Literature, Science, and the Arts: The attention of students and faculty is called to the following regulations of the College: Students are in no case examined at any other time than that set for the examination of the class in which the work has been done. When an entire class is affected by a conflict in the examination schedule, a special examination during the examinaton period may be arranged by the in- structor, with the consent of the Ex- amination Schedule Committee. It should be notea that a report of X (Absent from Examination) does not guarantee a make-up exam- ination. An instructor must, in fair-' ness to those who take the final ex- amination at the time announced for it, give make-up examinations only to students who have a legitimate reason for absence. E. A. Water Faculty, College of Literature, Sci- ence, and the Arts: It is requested by the Administrative Board that all instructors who make reports of "In- complete" or "Absent from Examina- tion" on grade-report-sheets give also information showing the char- acter of the part of the work which has been completed. This may be done by the use of the symbols, I (A), X (D), etc. Student Loan Committee meet- ing in Room 2, University Hali, at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24. All applications to be considered for the meeting mustbe filed in Room 2 before Monday noon, Jan. 22 and. appointments made with the com- mittee. Doctoral Examintion of Oren Frank Evans will be held at 2:00, Tuesday, Jan. 23 in 4065 Natural Science Build- ing. Mr. Evans' department of spe- cialization is Geology. The title of his thesis is "The Low and Ball of the Eastern Shore of Lake Michigan." Professor I. D. Mr. Dohren- ewnd's department of specialization is Engineering Mechanics. The title of his thesis is "Action of Deep Beams Under Combined Vertical, Lateral, and Torsional Loads." Professor J. Yoakum Automobile Regulation: Permission to drive for social purposes during the weekend of the J-Hop from Fri- day noon, Feb. 9, until Monday morn- ing, Feb. 12, at -8 a.m., may be ob- tained at Room 2, University Hall, through the following procedure: 1. Parent signature cards should be secured at this office and sent home for the written approval of the parents.: 2; Upon presentation of the signed card together with accurate infor- mation with regard to the make, type, and license number of the car to be used,,a temporary permit will be granted. It, is especially important to ;designate the year of the: license plates which will be on the car dur- ing the weekend of Feb. 9. 3. Out of town cars used for the weekend must not be brought into Ann Arbor before 12 noon on Friday, Feb. 9, and must be taken out before 8 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 12. The foregoing will not apply to those students who possess regular driving permits. The above permis- sion will automatically be granted to this group. Office of the Dean of Students Seniors expecting to teach in the state of New York are notified that the examination in French, German, Spanish, and Italian will be given here on February 17.
