Senstioal ctsFor Leisure Hour S by MARGARET WALSH Even the prospective breadwinners, among us are granted one time' in our lives when we can find the lei- sure (?) to lounge around informally in a smart-looking housecoat' and be a boudoir fashion plate, and that time is while we are in college. Designers, shop-keepers, and buy- ers are all on our side, and they have seen to it that we no longer need to shrink at the thought of anyone see- ing us in the old-fashioned "bath- robe". Graceful lines, soft materials, and color appeal make the modern negligee or housecoat a joy to a college woman, and most of us can- not accumulate enough of them. Light-weight Rayon Even with winter in the offing, light-weight housecoats are indis- pensable for the rare occasions when' your residence has the heat turned on. so that you can notice it. Rayon is proving to be one of the most pop- ular materials; because it is made in delicate or vivid colors, as you wish, looks perishable, and yet is really the best bet for practicability. Per- sonally, we can't tell the difference between some housecoats that are new and others that have been wash- ed innumerable times. French blue has entered the scene with an eloquent gesture, and pro- vides the background for many of the season's prettiest prints. Bright colors and gaiety of design seem to be the answer to a rainy afternoon of studying. Flair Skirt Appears Where, more than in the modern housecoat, could the popular flair skirt and full front be more advan- tageously employed? As skirts get (Continued on Page 6) By CLARA LENFESTEY Sleeping wear? Ah! There is one part of mi-ladies wardrobe that owes much to today's revival of leg-o- mutton sleeves, eyelet embroidery and wasp-waists. In fact pennies are now being spent for pajamas by women who, heretofore, had sworn they would never own a pair, and dollars on nigh- ties by those, who before, had never given such things as much as a glance! And no wonder!, Have you seen the fitted flannel nighties, trimmed in pink rick-rack and eyelet em- broidery, with their long sleeves gathered at the wrist. They are quaint, attractive and very practical for zero weather. Other models have straight boxy lhies with an old- fashioned yoke top. The flannel is soft and comes in pastel prints. Flannels Are 'Butcher-Boy' Style The "butcher-boy's top predomin- ates among the flannel and heavier cottons. One shop is showing pink and blue "butcher-boy" models trimmed with contrasting eyelet em- broidery. The trousers are very wide, even swashbuckling, in their full- nress. A pair that is sure to be your 'favorite is made of a soft blue vel- vety wool-silk material trimmed in white angora. The square neckline with its angora trim is emphasized with three lines of open-work three inches below the botder done in the same soft, white wool. The sleeves are puffed and the lines of the jacket, boxy. - Robe Matches Pajamas If you are the tailored type, a white pin-stripe on navy fashioned in the 'oft-showed' butcher-boy lines. with a high color and wonderful three-quarter length sleeves is "it." -The trousers on this suit are also 'very full. A pin-stripe robe may be found to match. It has fitted lines with the. two sides joined together With one loo-o-ong zip - - - p-er. A fringed tie-belt completes the fit- ting at the waist. P.S. The collar is high And round- ed too, and the sleeves full-length and cuffed. Matched sets of pajamas and robes are also in evidence. One particular- ly different style was, a fitted, wrap around robe, made of an old-fashion- ed blue and pink print With two little gathered pockets and sleeves full to the elbow where they are gathered in a froth of organdy trim. The neckline is high and rounded and also trimmed in organdy as are the pockets. A wide border of the organdy emphasizes the width of the skirt and best of all, the waist is (Continued on Page 6) HatSuces S y i f i g- -that's the receipt for early winter smartness. helen poihemus 1 613 East William Four Doors Off State Lm Shop of 'Distinctiveer7ilniiery oUr of. id l in in is it ,h AO .:: :::; 4 ,I fr, , . .
