The grohndschool will include 72 Inaugurating a new series of in- class hours of training in nine dif- formal snial activitis --r a ferent fields and will be completed probably before the end of the first semester. At the end of the course the student must pass an official examination in order to qualify for a private pilot's certificate of com- petency. Initiating the course will be two hours of insruction in the History of Aviation, including descriptions of the first legendary efforts at flight, the development of early types of balloons and gliders and finally the development of motor-driven craft. Proper behavior in the air is stressed during the 12 hours of in- struction which will be devoted to civil air regulations-the rules of air traffic and the privileges and limitations of pilots. Blind Flying Stressed No less important to the pilot is the ability to find his way on long flight's or in fogs that require instrument flying. In the 15 hours spent on navi- gation the student wild be introduced to maps and charts, the compass and its errors. An additional five hours will be used in the study of aviation instruments to acquaint the fledgeling with the functions of the control panel. Meteorology, of the fine art of weather forecasting, will receive 15 hours of attention. Weather maps will be explored, cloud formations analyzed and the general principles of weather changes and climate out- lined. Only one hour (but probably one that students will not want to miss) will be devoted to parachutes--their theory, construction, types, acer and, most essential, use. r, 1l, Sigma Rho Tax To Debate With Wayne On Patents Sigma Rho Tau, honorary engin- eering speech society, will send its negative debate team to Wayne Uni- 'versity tonight to debate the ques- tion, "Resolved: That the 17 Year Period of Patent Protection Should Be Shortened."
