THE MICHIGAN DAIL --,-I Membership Rise Reported At Wolverine i DAILY OFFICIAL BULLETIN FASHION DISCOVERY of the Month vaded it. Into that historical frame-work is woven the story of "Alexander Nev- sky," epic Soviet film which will be shown Oct. 12, 13 and 14 at the Lydia' Mendelssohn Theatre under the sponsorship of t.th Art Cinema League.. Every people has its one great tra- ditional battle. Whether of victory or defeat, the memory of the Boyne for the Irish, Hastings for the Eng- lish and Yorktown for Americans is a lasting one. For the Russian people the great- conflict was the "Battle on the Ice," in which Russia crushed her Germanic invaders. It is this battle that forms the cli- max of "Alexander Nevsky." Critics have hailed it as perhaps the great- est battle scene ever filmed. The struggle was reproduced before the caneras with as many foot soldiers and knights as there were in the original. This is Russia's epic story, and the Soviet film industry has done its ut- most to produce a picture worthy of the theme. Russia's greatest direc- tor, Sergei' Eisenstein, who filmed two earlier successes-"Potemkin" and "Ten Days that Shock the World," was placed in charge of the film. One of the greatest of modern Russian musicians, Sergei Progofieff, composed an orginal score for the film. The leading role was given to Nikolai Cherkassov, star of "Baltic Deputy" and "Peter L" Tickets will be on sale at the League box office.
