THE MICHIGAN DAILY ion's Club Ball To Feature Earl Hines' Orchestra Tonig Benefit Dance Will Be Held At Intramnra Annual Affair's Proceeds To Be Devoted To Local I Philanthropic Interests The Lion's Club of Ann Arbor will hold an informal dance from 9 p.m. till midnight today at the Intra- mural Building, it was announced by I Von Bush, general chairman. With the proceeds from this dance last year, the club purchased over 90 pairs of glasses for children of school age in Ann Arbor and Washtenaw County. It also made a $100 down payment on a Seeing Eye dog from Morristown, N.J., for an Ann Arbor resident. The Lion's Club has been instrumental in hiring a teacher to instruct the blind of the community in the reading of Braille and has established a librarian's 'fund to transpose both popular and classi- cal literature into Braille volumes which are on reserve at the Public Library. The club hopes to net several thous- and dollars this year to further carry out this work and to initiate new projects which will be of benefit for Washtenaw county residents as well, as those of Ann Arbor. Earl "Father" Hines and his or- chestra will furnish the music, and the tickets for the event are priced at one dollar per couple. These are on sale at the Parrot, Wahrs', Ul- richs' and Saffel & Bush Clothing Co. Hines' fourteen-piece band played for J-Hop three years ago and has just left the Terrace Gar- den in Chicago on his way to New York City. Alpha Chi Omega ' Members of Alpha Chi Omega are instituting the custom of holding weekly teas under the chaperonage of Mrs. J. M. Goodale. Members will be at home to their guests either Wednesday or Thursday. Alpha Chi Sigma Following Founders' Day Celebra- tion dinner which will be held Sun- day, Oct. 15, Harriet Johnson, '40, Clare Wright, '40, and Jean John- son, '40, will be initiated into Alpha Chi Sigma. Alpha Phi Alpha Phi alumnae are planning a Founders' Day dinner for Tuesday. Bill Sawyer is to play in the main ballroom, and Woody Mack and his orchestra will furnish dance music on the third floor. Ann Dahl, regu- lar singer with Sawyer's band, will be the vocalist. Irl Brent, '41, is gen- eral chairman. The dance is a traditional affair, and students always gather in the ballrooms for dancing after the game. Students from "State" are urged to realize that the dance this weekend is for them as well as the students in the' University.
