Dimock,1 Harlem Count Is To Provide Spice At J-Hop Men To Get Boutonnieres; Burgundy, Blue, Gold Theme For Decorations Count Basie and his band will ool- 'aborate with Henry Busse's orches- tra to offer variety in swing and the spice for the 1939 J-Hop to be held Friday, Feb. 10. A new name on the lists of bands elite, Basie is expected to produce rhythm that is smooth and spontaneous. His rise as a band leader is dated from the year 1934, when he took over Moten's baton at the Reno Club in Kansas City. Recent engagements which he has fulfilled have included the Chatterbox, of the Hotel William Penn, in Pittsburgh, where his was the first colored band ever booked to play at this nightspot. He followed Kay Kyser's band at the Ritz-Carl- ton Hotel, in Boston. A new note in, the J-Hop pro- gramme will be the presentation of carnation boutonnieres to the men, announced Mary Ellen Spurgeon, '40, chairman of favors and pro- grammes. Burgundy, blue and gold will be the predominating colors in the J- Hop decorations it has been revealed. The ceiling will be covered with panels of blue and gold, the center panel of blue being covered with sil- ver stars. The focal points of the decorations will be two figures at each end of the room, which will be thrown in relief by the use of colored lights. The two band stands, will carry out a theme of burgundy and gold. The booths will also be draped in deep red and gold. Fraternity crests will mark the booths. Indirect lighting at the columns will add a subdued modern- istic effect. Donald Treadwell, '40, general chairman, will attend Eileen Hay- ward, of Detroit. In accordance with the custom of the past, only guests of committee members will wear corsages.
