McElvy, Grad., will di- rect the 1939 Junior Girls Play, Dor- othy Shipman,'40, general chairman, announced yesterday. Mr. McElvy is at present director' of Childrens Theatre and last year received attention through his adap- tion of the play "The Secret Garden" for that organization. He assisted Sarah Pierce, Grad., in the direction of the Junior Girls Play, "Mulberry Bush," last year. In addition, Mr. McElvy won a prize in the field of essay in the Hopwood contest last year. A Phi Beta Kappa, he graduated from Colgate, where he was prominent on campus, and re- ceived his master's degree here last year. Miss Shipman announced' again that the deadline for scripts is Nov. 16. It is not necessary for the au- thors to submit complete dialogue or action, but merely a summary, if they wish. The mass meeting for all junior women on campus will be held some- time after Thanksgiving, Miss Ship- man said. Whether the '39 JGP cast will in- clude men has yet to be decided, Miss Shipman said. The decision will be announced later. Committees are still open for new members, and those who come out for the first com- mittee meetings will be eligible for permanent membership on the com- mittee. Dancing and voice classes will begin early in December for try- outs for the project. State Hockey Team Plays Home Eleven The University women's hockey team will play the women's hockey team from Michigan State College at 10:30 a.m. today at Palmer Field, Mary Richardson, '40Ed, hockey man-1 ager, announced recently. The University team will be com- posed of Miss Richardson, Joan Bev- ington, '40Ed, Doris Cranmore, '40Ed, Florence Dyer, '40, Sally Connery, '40Ed, and Frances Anderson, '40Ed. Miss Tinker secured her master's degree from the University in 1934. She traveled to China to study tex- tiles and spent 10 months there be- fore the war broke out. During her stay in China, Miss Tinker resided in the home of an aristocratic family in Peking. At the outbreak of the war in July, 1937, she was forced to return home, but she did not arrive in the United States until August, 1938. Miss Tink- er in her speech Monday will de- scribe not only the Chinese life as she observed it in Peking, but also her experiences on her prolonged journey home.
