To Stress Pass Offense For Northwestern Game { Archie Kodros Resumes Pivot Place On Line Strong, Harmon, Kromer, Purucker Toss Aerials To Ends In Practice When the Wildcats of Northwestern growl the week before a contest it is a k own fact that they are out for mor than favorable results in the coming weekend game. What could be done by Waldorf's boys when they are really playing, was shown by their win over Minnesota. Although only a faint cry can be heard at present, Coach Crisler and his Wolverine football squad are well aware that back of Dyche Stadium, where "Pappy" Waldrf is working his boys, there is undoubtedly more pep and drive in the Wildcat squad now than there was the week before the Gopher game. Out Of Race As far as getting a piece of the Con- ference Title this year the Wildcats are out-however when it comes to deciding who will be up in the pay off position at the end of the season the Northwestern squad knows that they have something to say. It is known that the Wildcats will use all the tricks they can think of in order to keep the Wolverines from sharing in the championship.- IKnowing that a victory over both the Wildcats and Buckeyes is a mighty tough assignment for any team, es- pecially when they are on consecutive weekends Coach Crisler lost no time in working the squad on an offense! that will be similaruto Northwestern's. Several Throwing Passes Yesterday the air attack received the most attention. Saving the line plays for the coming workouts Coach Crisler had Harmon, Strong, Kromer, Purucker, and Trosko throwing the passes. On the receiving end Valek,' Nicholson, Smick and Frutig were * trying to grasp a semi-slippery ball. The final minutes of practice saw the Wolverines line up in the manner which they will probably assume at the start of the game on Saturday. Harmon, Kromer, Phillips, and. Eva- shevski will take over the backfield. Kodros At Center Archie Kodros was holding down] the center position, while Nicholson, and Smick had the ends pretty well, under control. Seigel and Captain Janke were doing the tackle duties and Heikkinen and Brennan filled the guard posts. This Saturday's game will be thef final Conference game for a good many Wildcats, but there will be three players who will put out an extra effort in an attempt to win recogni- tion in the form of a place on an All-Conference team. Veterans To Play "Big Jeff" Jefferson, Northwest-. ern's colored star-who comes from Grand Rapids-would like very much to make a run against the Wolverines as he did against Wisconsin. Receiv-.. ing the ball on the kickoff Jefferson ran 95 yards for a touchdown. Bob Voights, who for the last three years has played regular tackle, will do all he can to make an impression on the Wolverine fans in i ahanner similar to that Don Seigel left at Northwestern last year. Also in the line will be John Haman whose play so far this year has caused many experts to place him on a par with Michigan's Chuck Barnard. Northwestern has defeated Minne- sota. Any team that 'can hand the strong Gopher team a loss is going to be a hard outfit to beat. Wisconsin's victory over the Wildcats cannot be considered in making any predic- tions-+-that defeat was caused by a general letdown of the whole team. This Saturday there will be no such relapse by the Wildcat squad. I To Lead Northwestern Against Wolverines Haney, Browns' New Manager, Declares He Will Rebuild Team Cleo Diehl, captain of the Northwestern Wildcats, will attempt to lead his team to victory this coming Saturday over Coach Fritz Crisler's Michigan Wolverines. Diehl plays end, and will bear plenty of watching on pass plays. Although the Wildcats are out of the championship fight in the Big Ten, Diehl would like nothing better than to bring home to Evanston a win over the Maize and Blue. Wrestlers Begin Daily Workouts Aft Yost Field House Michigan's Big Ten Wrestling champions of the past year have be- gun to work out daily at Yost Field House. in order to be in the pink of condition to defend their laurels when regular competition gets into full swing late in November. Assistant Coach Robertson has some twenty-five men working out every afternoon, and he will remain in charge until Coach Keene is re- lieved of his football duties in mid- November. Among the grapplers out at this early stage of the season are the veteran lettermen Captain Harold Nichols, Don Nichols, Big Ten light- heavyweight champ, Dick Tash, Jim Mericka, and Tim Hurd. John Spei- cher, who copped the conference 118 pound crown last year, will be great- ly missed, since as yet there have been no entries for this class. Coming up from last year's fresh- man squad and showing potential varsity ability is a local Ann Arbor lad, John Paup, a 145 pounder. Other likely looking prospects working out at present are Andy Sawyer another Inn Arbor product in the 135 pound class, and Ralph Turner in the 155 pound division.
