Invitations must be delivered to the mail boxes of the dormitories or to the front doors of the League Houses starting at 9 a. m. Friday. No active may talk with a rushee at this time. 11. Entering students must stay not longer than three-quarters of an hour at each house, and they may go to all of the initial teas for which they have received invitations.. 12. A rushee may attend only one of the initial teas at each house, and no dates except the initial teas may be split. 13. A sorority may not have more than four dates with one rushee. 14. One of the initial teas shall. count as the rushee's first date; she may be asked for a second date by invitation as described, or during the tea. She may also be asked for a third date during the first date. 15. A rushee may not be asked to a formal until during the second date except in the case of a rushee entering school late. 16. A rushee may attend only one formal by each sorority. 17. In order to avoid rushing at trains, prospective rushees must not be met by sorority women with the exception of sisters. 18. Only three calls can be made by a sorority upon each rushee. A call shall consist of a telephone mes- sage or a mailed invitation on the written form. There will be no call- ing in person on any rushee. 19. Beginning yesterday there must be no contact between sorori- ties and possible rushees except as stated in the rules. 20. During the intensive rushing season, a sorority woman may not converse at all with any independent eligible for rushing; this includes those women not eligible for pledging at the end of the intensive season. 21. No sorority woman may enter a dormitory with the exception of mothers and sisters who are not active, and who may be in the dormitory but may not communicate with other women. 22. Phone 7066 v- I * 15 Activities To Interest Students At Palmer Field During Outdoor Season z By JEAN McKAY All of you sports enthusiasts need ' not fear that because you are about to enter college you will have to leave your athletic interests behind you. The Women's Athletic Association at the University offers you as many 1 sports and athletic activities as you will have time for. Upon entering the University every woman automatically becomes an in- active member of W.A.A.: she may use the equipment and take advantage of the coaching supplie by the Physi- cal Education Department. She be- comes an active member of the as- sociation by participation in some sport. Many Indoor Sports Offered Barbour Gymnasium and the Wo- men's Athletic Building are thehead- quarters of W.A.A. At Barbour Gym- nasium there is space for fencing, indoor badminton courts, basketball courts and a dancing studio. At the Women's Athletic Building there are sixteen tennis courts, three hockey fields, two outdoor badminton courts, ping-gong tables, indoor and outdoor archery and golf ranges, bowling alleys, rifle ranges, lounges and locker rooms. The sports program of W.A.A. is extensive enough to interest every- one. In the fall there is archery, golf, hockey, riding, tennis and volley- ball; badminton, basketball, bowling,, dancing, fencing, ping-pong, riflery, swimming and outdoor sports are in- cluded in the winter program; and in the spring there is archery, canoe- ing, golf, riding, softball and tennis. Clubs Are Orgauzed If you are particularly adept at any of the sports you may join one of the clubs under the supervision of W.A.A. These include the archery club, the badminton club,.the basket- ball club, Crop and Saddle (the rid- ing club), the dance club, the fencing club, Pitch and Putt (the golf club), and the rifle, swimming and tennis clubs. Interclub and intramural tour- naments are held in many of the sports, and last year intercollegiate meets were held in archery, badmin- ton, basketball, fencing, golf and ten- nis. The only individual award for par- ticipation in sports at the University is ;the M scarf, a yellow and blue scarf with an M insignia. The privi- lege of wearing this scarfis earned by the students who complete two seasons of sports activity. This means twelve participations in one or a combination of not more than three sports for two consecutive seasons,. The school year is divided into four seasons corresponding with the pro- gram of the Physical Education De- partment.,. Cups Given To Winners Besides the individual awards, cups are awarded to the winners of team sports. An all-participation cup is also presented to the organization which has the greatest number of partici- pations at the end of the year. The i Honors Board at the Women's Ath- letic Building bears the names of the winners in all sports for the past year. Any woman student enrolled in the University may participate in tour- naments, but she must be eligible for extra-curridular activities in order to receive the award for participation or to take part in intercoliegiate matches. I Supervised By Board W.A.A.. is supervised by an athletic board composed of the officers- president, vice-president, secretary and treasurer-a manager for each. sport, an intramural manager, a publicity chairman and an award chairman. The managers of each sport are elected by the members ofI that club and the other members of the board are chosen by the senior members of the board preceding them. W.A.A. pis one of the sponsors of Michigras, a carnival put on every year by the University. It also spon- sors Lantern Night, a traditional af- fair held every spring to honor senior women. Last yearta Lantern Night Sing was held after the traditional line of march. Sororities, dormitories, and independent groups competed, each being allowed three minutes for their songs. Pi Beta Phi won first place with "My Pi Phi Girl," Delta Delta Delta second with ''Under the Moon"" and Kappa Kappa Gamma - third with "Kappa Sym- phony." Beta Theta Pi, winner of Interfraternity Sing, sang "The Lov- ing Cup," the song with which they placed. Norma Curtis, '39, president of W.A.A., acted as toastmaster.
