PAGE TWO THE MICHIGAN DAILY TUESDAY, JAN. 18.1938 .... . . ... ... --- ------- Varsity Band To Give Varied Concert Sunday Operatic, Ballet, Modern American Music Will Be Included OnProgram The Varsity Concert Band will pre- sent a concert featuring operatic,, modern American and ballet music at 4:15 p.m. Sunday in Hill Auditorium under the direction of Prof. William D. Revelli, of the School of Music. There will be no admission charge. The program will be opened withl the overture, "Anacreon," by Cheru- vini. Second will be Prelude by Jules Massenet. Then the "Russian Sail- ors' Dance" by Rheinhold Gliere will be presented. The suite, "Panto- mime," by Antonio Sacchini includ- ing the March, Aria and Finale will come next. Featured as the second type of mu- sic will be the well known modern composition-'Song of the Bayou" by Rube Bloom. An =interesting factor about the next presentation, a descriptive suite by Haydn Wood, is the way in which the composer happened to write the suite. It is a description of the panels in an English publishing house and describes the "Band Stand at Hyde Park" and contains several "Sea Chanties." The overture, "Maid of Asturia," by Benedetto Secchi, will complete the program.
