Named for former Regent James 0. Murfin of Detroit, the gate will close the opening between Allen House and the south wing of the Union addition, on Madison St. The gate is built of stone and brick, and has two wrought iron, swinging gates provided with a key lock. A bronze plate will be placed in the portal, with the following wording on it: MUlIFIN GATE Erected by the Student Dormi- tory Committee as a testimonial to JAMES 0ORRIN MURFIN, v A.B. '95, LL.B. '96, Regent of the University 1918-1937, in grateful appreciation of his unfailing in- terest in the life and activities of the student body of the Univer- sity of Michigan. The Murf in Gate was mnade pos- Ssible by a gift to the University from the. Student Dormitor y Committee. The, Detroit firm of Lane-Daven- Sport-Meyer designed the gate.
