The conference was called by the; department of recreation of the WPAI and by the University of Minnesotal inanticipation of government proj- ects in that field. Prof. Elmer D Mitchell of the department of physi- cal education outlined the work of the University in training for recrea- tional leadership and was chosen chairman of the research committee. Other universities reporting were the University of Southern California and New York University. Among topics discussed were the importance of leisure as a social prob- lem, the development of leadership and the utilization of leisure in the service of democracy, as it has been, developed to the service of the Fascist and other philosophies. A resolution asking for a national conference on leisure, similar to the coming one called by the English gov- ernment, will be presented to Presi- dent Roosevelt.
