Cosmetics And now that m' lads and lassies have only 14 more merry, shopping days before Santa comes climbing down chimneys, there are many gift suggestions to keep you busy 'til the very last minute. The problem of "just the gift" has all sorts of involved angles but you can seldom go wrong if you decide on something in the line of cosmetics. Every woman has a secret desire to have the latest "tips" in cosmetics and there are so many possibilities in this line, it should give you no trouble at all. Fitted cases of all descriptions are popular for all cosmetics and they come in suedes, soft leathers and fabrics, fastened in all sorts of novel ways. Zippers are still the "top" but the draw; string pouch effects are something new. Perfumes are always welcome gifts and since they have gone so exotic nobody can resist them. Our Parisian perfumers have given us so many new scents that it is a temptation not to indulge in a different scent for every costume. Therefore, you just can't go wrong if you decide on this. Simplicity is stressed, but a simplicity with that certain note of smartness that gives finesse. Suedes and soft leathers furnish us with the old stand-bys, but heavy rich brocades will soon be taking highlight positions for spring prints and lighter ensembles. Patents will be flashing forth soon after vacation, so if you want to be one jump ahead of Dame Fashion we might suggest some- thing bright along this line. Evening bags are the answer to the problem if the lady hap- pens to be one who equips herself with all the essentials for in- formal wear but feels she just shouldn't spend her allowance for the luxuries. Bags are now complete with make-up, cigarette case and coin purses for the meticulous lady. No longer must she carry a host of things in her pockets-it's all complete in one. For cold Christmas mornings, no more pleasant surprise could come wrapped in cellophane ribbons, than a luxurious robe of smartest design. And there are simply loads of suggestions from which to make your choices. Long sweeping lines that mold feminine figures into smooth suaveness are accomplished in the Princess styles that have been so popular this season. Flannels in all the luscious colors you can think of are among the best gifts and next in line are the lovely models in crepes and heavy satins. Quilted fabrics have been made into some of the most exquisite robes and are often combined with pajama sets of equally lovely design. As for the problem the ladies f ace in what to have wrapped up at the bargain counter for the boy friend, there are plenty of choice suggestions within easy reach. For one thing, there are always ties-most of them look pretty awful, but then it's the thought that counts. The best way to pick out male neckwear is to remember his favorite color com- binations, bear in mind that striped ties go with figured shirts and vice versa, close both eyes and take the nearest one. If he smokes, a pipe, a cigarette caseor a lighter will doubtless be appreciated. It's best to exercise some discretion in picking out a pipe for a choosey smoker.
