The chennille robes which are so
flattering have the additional virtue l
of practicabality in that they are
,washable. The alluring shades of
shell, pink, powder blue, turquoise,
wine and eggshell make the robes of
this material universal favorites.
Flannel robes have ever been pop-
ular but this year they have empha-
sized the styles more than is usual.
In place of the usual tailored lines
they have given us the other ex-
treme . . . femininity. One is de-
signed on the graceful sweeping lines
of the empire styles. The very form
fitting many gored skirt has a slight
train making it even more glamorous
. . . and also slenderizing. Satin but-
terflies and cuffs in a contrasting
color add to its delicate beauty.
Appliques Are Popular
Of equal beauty was the house coat
which we might call severe but for
the leafy applique work following the
front opening to the hem and orna-
menting the cuffs of the raglan sleeve.
The ideal gift for women of almost
any age is seen in the flannel robes
of deep jewel tones with startingly
brilliant bouquets of flowers em-
broidered on pockets and sleeves.
Two-toned satin piping on the fac-
ing, pocket and buttons add to its
smooth sophisticated appearance.
The decorative quilted taffeta
housecoats of bright, cheery flower
prints will solve the problem of 'just
the right gift" for some one whom
you consider hard to shop and please.

New Lounging Footwear
Makes Attractive Gift For
Lovely Woman

Every woman, no matter how old'
or how young she may be, has one
weakness. She adores lovely boudoir
slippers. They do much to strike her3
natural vanity, and make her feel"'
delightfully feminine. As a Christ-
mas present, they are just the thing
to please her.
There are some fascinating new
styles in the realm of slippers this
season. Booties are becoming im-
mensely popular. In one of the Ann
Arbor stores, a fluffy, delicate cro-
cheted bed jacket trimmed with an-
gora, is being displayed. It comes
with matching crocheted, angora
trimmed booties. Pink and blue arej
the two colors of this lovely set. A
gift of this type would thrill any lady,
old or young.
Red Trims Navy
If one has a navy blue, red-trimmed
flannel bathrobe, a pair of navy blue
felt booties with bright red lacing
and trim are grand for true loung-
ing comfort. The new satin booties
are most flattering to the stunning
striped silk Prince Albert dressing
gowns. One pair comes in coronation
blue and is lined in gold satin. They
are soft and smooth next to the foot
and are a dainty addition to the
wardrobe. Of course, one wears them
only on special occasions.
Another favorite boudoir slipper
among women is the cozette type.
Snug cozettes of white fur are deli-
cate looking and comfortable. Some
are heelless and others are made on
more conservative lines.
One of the newest innovations in

boudoir slippers is the Frou-Frou.
This is quite Frenchy looking and is'
immensely popular. Frou-Frous come
in many colors, are made either of I
satin"or crepe and have a ruffle peek-
ing from the inside of the slipper,
up around the ankle. They give the
foot a snappy, feminine appearance.
A new pair of Ftou-Frous will do a
great deal to offset any housecoat
or pair of pajamas.
Mules Still Popular
Satin mules are still popular to'
wear with silk or satin lounging pa-I
jamas. The ones trimmed with os-1
trich feathers or fluffy fur are .ador-
able. Some of these have a strap over
the heel and others are heelless. I
Brocaded satin ones too, are lovely.
Sandals, heelless, toeless, high or
cuban heeled are worn with negligees
and lounging attire. Velvet, satin,
and kid are the materials of which
they are made. One dainty, satin'
pump comes with a heel strap and
has an immense bow over the instep.
Ribbed effects, perforations, intri-
cate open-work designs, are all skill-
fully carried out in the new slippers.
LAME FOR SOPHISTICATION
Lame is decidedly "in" this season,
especially printed lame. One sophis-
ticated dress features a black butter-
fly pleated skirt . . . yards n' yards
around. This is set offby a shimmer-
ing blue and silver print top made
in the shirtwaist style with tiny but-,
tons of the material running all the
way down the front.
With any one of these new and dis-
tinctive frocks, any girl may rest as-
sured that she will head the style
parade this Christmas season to the

'tical, but not too practical and this
year they are truly beautiful.
Designed especially for the Christ-I
mas season, one pair is called the
"Merry Gloves." They are short slip-
one with bright red fourchettes and
cuffs, a dazzling contrast to deep
black. Classic slip-ons in soft french
suede would be appreciated either
plain or embroidered with tiny flow-
ers. The latter pair is especially ap-
propriate for the Yuletide because it
comes in black or white and is star-
tlingly different for the cocktails,
teas, and wedding breakfasts which
so often comprise holiday functions.
Another trimmea pair is of choco-
late brown in a pull-on style with
brown strands of wheat embroidered
on the back and tipped with gold
threads. Nothing could be more strik-
ing with a cyprus green suit or a
beaver bolero. Other pull-ons are in
moss-green doeskin, mahogany col-
ored Kin Kid, black with a plaided
kid inset and a suede and kid com-

and blue shades there is a beautiful
pair of glaced kidskin slip-ons with
a chevron tucking on the back. These
are in beige. A perfect complement
to that short-sleeved black dress is a
glove in classic dusty pink suede in
an eight button length. Another glove
which looks well with black is an Aris
glove in black with a gold threaded
cuff.
Two very good looking styles for
day-by-day wear are an English tan
goatskin handsewn over contrasting
grey suede binding and a utility glove
in either pigskin or suede which has
a palm p6cket with a Talon zipper
for keys or carfare.
Evening mittens in rabbit's hair
and wool are ideal, but the most un-
usual and exciting of the current
gloves is a black suede pull-on cuffed
with silver fox and this glove in white
is stunning for evening with a black
velvet wrap, in place of the more con-
ventional long formal gloves. You
might try suggesting this to your
family as a Christmas present if your
desires run in this direction.I
STOCKINGS GOOD GIFTS
All in all, stockings have become
the ideal gift and all of these or any
one can do much toward making a
happy Christmas for the allowance-
spent college girl and her patience-

Keynotes New
Coiffure Style
Glamour and sophistication charac-
terize the latest hair styles.. Variety
ranges from smooth sleek page boy
bobs to elaborate curls piled high on
the head.
In general, women are wearing their
hair much longer this year than last,
Side parts are given preference, and
one coiffure has a long turned-under
curl on the left side, starting almost
at the part. Beginning at the nape of
the neck, small pin curls are placed
gracefully to the right, continuing
high on that side where a similar curl
to that of the left balances the hair
dress.
Shoulder Curl Worn
Some faces are best suited for a
middle part. A simple and interesting
style for evening has the hair drawn
back loosely from the middle part.
The hair hangs softly, but straightly,
and is rolled into a large, loose curl,
which is almost shoulder length. This
is one of the modifications of the
page-boy bob.
Another variation of this style has a
halo curl across the forehead, the
inverted curl falling softly almost to
the shoulders in back. The page-boy
bob has proved its practicability be-
cause it is appropriate for ether for-
mal or informal occasions, and makes
hat purchasing less complicated.
Evening Coiffure High
In contrast to the low bob, a coif-
fure for evening has the hair pulled
high on the head, with large, flat curls
piled very high, none of them falling
below the ears. Another style, sim-
ilar to this, and appropriate for eve-
ning, has one curl high on the fore-
head. The hair is then drawn back
without a part and smoothly waved.
The curls in this style are placed in a
group just below the crown of the
head, and not touching the neck at all.

The tailored robe is still popular
and, with the addition of a few
feminine touches, is holding its own
amidst the influx of frilly, leisurq-
time house coats and negligees.
Full, flowing skirts and luxurious
fabrics have been most emphasized
in the new versions.

arrangement and suit the flowers to

Containers should be subordinated
to the blooms. For that reason the
