Now is the Christmas Season. The carpenter lays aside
his mallet, the shoemaker his awl, and other workmen
whatsoever are the tools of their trade. For with this
gala time the spirit of carnival enters into men and
their hearts are light and their minds turn to the sweet-
ly smelling balsam tree and the waxy scent of brightly
burning candles. But most of all the thoughts of men
go from themselves towards others, and friends come
with words of good cheer on their lips and bearing
