A Union formal ... a football victory ... and a snow storm composed
one of those unique October week-ends that makes life worth living . .
we're all on top of the world again and probably many already have train
fares carefully laid aside to take them to Illinois next week ... for another
victory (we hope, we hope) . . . "It can be done" was proven by a squad
of eleven determined men Saturday' afternoon . . . and from now on we're
scheduled for a comeback . . . so prepare yourselves, my lads and lassies s
. . . there's more than a spark of hope in our future. a
And now we're off on a gay whirl of social affairs :. . formals, formals r
and more formals are ahead, but the starting point was Friday night...-t
none other than the Union Formal, the first of the season, set us off. Just B
as the taxis started forming long lines at the Union n
side entrance . . . and daintily slippered feet, hidden
bneath much finery of formal gowns . . . we began b
seeing people from every wal of campus life com- r
ing into the Union ... Betty Whitney and Bruce Telfer
were in the lobby, "milling" about through the crowd C
trying to get up to the ballroom . . . On the stairs we
met Margaret . Cram and Wally Wendell about to
start a gay evening of dancing . .. once on the second a
floor there were simply mobs of people to push your E
way through ... (as everyone soon concluded) ... but L
there were loads of familiar faces about . . . Margery Lehner and.Fitz o
Bridges were stopping at the drinking fountain just as we passed . . .J
Janet Fullenwider and Phil Clark were all involved in dancing as we w
entered the ballroom. V
At the Lambda Chi table there was much fun in progress . .. here we
saw Jean Morrall and Roy Neff talking with Joan Outhwaite and Bill a
Hope . . . Marion Cranmore and Larry McKay were also among the fun t
makets . . At the Phi Gam table we saw many,
many people . .. with lots of enthusiasm displayed,
for the party . . . Elizabeth Hegge and Wad Spain
had a great time with Helen Horn and Arnold t
Southard. .. Annabell Van Winkle and Jack Gelder
... Marian Reynolds and Johnny McFate.. . Jean
Donaldson and Mac Campbell . . . Betty Keppel
and Bob Muehler were among others at this table
Janet Fischer and Mart Beach were doing som
of the newer steps .. . The Chi Phi's had a table too, \
where much was going on . . . Betty Riddel and 1
Harvey Wadsworth werle there with Louis Ebert
and Stew Wade 'til time for the floor show . . . then we saw Margaret
Carrigan and Bob Pepper with Dottie Buelow and Bob Canning going up to
see what was in the making . . . and quite a floor show it was (especially
the xylophonist act, which everyone enjoyed) ...
As the midnight hour approached they served supper . . so of course
everyone gathered round the festive board ... Claire Ford and Ed Foote were
enjoying chicken salad and we saw Muriel Hess and Frank Southon sipping
coffee . . Ruth Calkins and Jack Woodison were
part of the party and we saw Nancy Gossard
with Jerry Fink ... Betty Rouse and Adam Cru-
. der had loads of fun with all that .. .
Martha Cook celebrated the Michigan victory
Saturday with a rousing rendition of "The Vic-
. tors" and so forth and so forth at their first
edance of the year. Janet Karlson and Paul,
4 Simpson were playing the part of good sailors
by passing out clove life savers. There was ,a
demonstration of what can be learned at the weekly Swing Sessions when
Irene Sartor and Mike Chadwick began to shag over in one corner and
Barbara McIntyre trucked on down with Howard Awig. Bunty Bain
came with Jim Miner and Sally Kenny had Harry Wallin as her guest,
but we saw both of these fellows dancing with Miss Rowe, the popular
dietician'of the dormitory. Marie McElroy and Dick Kreider were having
fun breaking balloons.
