Coach Ray Fisher plans to start two teams including many of the men about whom he has either observed or heard encouraging things. One squad which has been running North- w;estern plays against the Varsity will pse those formations while the re- fnainder of the squad will use the plays they have been given during the last two days. They have practiced these forma- tions but two days and will no doubt pe a bit ragged but, according to wisher, the main thing is to find out who can run, block, and tackle and so forth. The scrimmage will probably get under way about 4:30 p.m. since many of the boys will be unable to make it any earlier because of a freshman hygiene lecture. Yesterday the squad spent its time practicing the four r'unning plays and three pass plays in ar attempt to smooth out the roughness which is still in evidence. Sanhattan Will iv e 4Spartans IReal Conotest', EAST LANSING, Oct. 7.-(A)- Thirty-seven Michigan State College football players were enroute to New York today to meet Chick Meehan's Manhattan College Jaspers in a gameI that is expected to prove whether State has a really "great" team or whether its opposition this year has only made it appear outstanding. The squad, the largest traveling group Coach Charley Bachman has ever named for a football trip, left aboard special cars shortly after 5 p.m. Thursday. The trip will get: them to New York at noon and the squad will leave immediately for Garden City, LI., where headquar-i ters will be established until game time Saturday. The Spartans went through a light rill before they departed. It was established that Allen Diebold, first! string quarterback, would be unable to play in the Manhattan game, for the injured shoulder suffered by the burly boy from Jackson has kept him out of uniform for the past two days. He is on the New York trip, however. State left their camp feeling that the game with Manhattan would be one of the sternest tests of the year. chatter throughout the workout. Emphasis yesterday, as in most of the other workouts during the past week, was on pass defense. Coaches Kipke and Anderson spent the major portion of the time drilling the teams on breaking up the opponents aerial attacks before they got started and keeping the receivers covered. Lineup Undecided Stark Ritchie and Fred Trosko looked especially good on the throw- ing end of the attach, and Kipke was undecided as to which one of the two would be in the starting lineup. When the Wolverines were not under the direction of Kipke and An- derson they rehearsed plays and de- fense against the Northwestern at- tack under assistant line coach Franklin Cappon. Kipke was not yet fully decided as to who would be in the lineup at the kickoff tomorrow but indicated that a tentative starting squad would prob- ably include Stanton, Farmer, Renda, and either Ritchie or Trosko in the backfield, Rinaldi or Kodros at the pivot post, Brennan and Heikkenen @t guards, Siegel and Savilla, tackles,1 and Smick and Nicholson at the flanks.f Wolverine Rooters Accompany Team To Evanston Gamej The Michigan fans are on the move again, this time following the team to Northwestern. By bus, train, thumb and bum, the supporters are wending 'their way to the Windy City. On the special train that will leave this afternoon for tomorrow's game there will be at least 50 fans and the mighty Marching 130 of the Varsity Band. ,The special bus that leaves from the Union will carry another 30 By far most of the travelers will go by auto or by the thumb route. Groups from different fraternities are going to make it a week-end at Chi- cago, too. There have not been many tickets sold through the Administration De- partment which seems to show that most of the students are planning to get their tickets in Evanston. The girls who hope to attend the game are warned to get their appli- cations for permission into the Dean of Women. Mmmkmmwj ON . ...e.... .'
