General and Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Quan- tative Analysis, Elementary and Ad- vanced Theoretical and physical chemistry, Chemical Literature and History of Chemistry will be offered. Advanced courses and opportunity ifor research have been arranged. Classical Archaeology. A large col- lection of lantern slide and photo- graphs will illustrate all these courses fully. These courses do not require a knoweldge of Greek or Latin. Mu- seum Methods, Courses in mythology and life among the early Romans and Greeks, study of works of art and utensils of antiquity will be given. Work In Economics Economics. The courses offered by thesEconomics department are repre- sentative of work given during the academic year. The introductory courses in the principles of economics, Money and Credit, Labor, Interna- tional Trade, Accounting, Public Fi- nance, . Economic Theory and Ec- onomic Thought are among the courses offered. Research work on topics not covered in any seminar course may be pursued under the di- rection of the instructor of the sub- ject chosen. English Language and Literature. A course in composition and in crea- tive writing will be offered. Courses in Linguistic Science, Old English, Chaucer, Grammar and Practical Se- mantics. The Introductory course in Literature, Shakespeare, Milton, Vic- torian, Literature, Contemporary Dra- ma, as well as several more detailed courses and proseminars in particular periods, have been arranged. Fine Arts Work Fine Arts. Consideration of Italian Renaissance Architecture, Sculpture and Painting, studies in Far Eastern art an'd the technique and Criticism i of Painting will be dealt with. Geography. The courses offered at Ann Arbor are of the same character of those given during the regular year. The courses will be rotated from year to year to provide a variety of subjects for summer school at- tendants. At Wilderness Park on the Straits of Mackinac is located the camp headquarters for the field work to be carried on in both the Upper and Lower Peninsula. , Geology. Two distinct types of training are offered by this depart- ment: classroom instruction and field excursions at Ann Arbor, and an eight-week fielI course in Colorado beginning June 21. The viciinty of Ann Arbor provides abundant oppor- tunity for study of geology and is within easy access of areas which demonstrate other features valuable b to the course. Facilities for research are provided for graduate students. Germanic Languages and Litera- tures. These courses correspond, in general, to courses offered during the academic year. Some of the courses are especially recommended for teachers of German. Greek Language and Literature. A course in elementary Greek, a Semi- nary in Sophocles and Greek Myth- ology are offered. History. Introductory and detailed courses closely corresponding to those offered during the regular year will be given. Seminars in Ancient History and Recent European History will be given under the direction of Profes-' sors McDowell and Ehrmann. Journalisu. Besides the formal in- struction special conferences may be arranged to serve the interests of teachers of journalism. Principles of Journalism, Advertisement Writing, Feature. Writing, Magazine Writing, and Problems in High School and College Journalism are among the courses dealt with. Landscape Design. Three courses have been offered in this field: In- troduction to the Study of Landscape Design, City Planning and Civic Im- provement, Public Parks and Outdoor Recreation Faculties. Latin Language and Literature. Use of the University's collection of classical antiquities and objects of ancient art, in the Museum of Clas- sical Archaeology, will be made in connection with the work in. Latin. Courses in Latin literature, and on Roman life will be offered along with several courses dealing with the teaching of Latin. Library Science. Courses in catalog- ing and classifying and in Library administration will be offered in this department. Special emphasis will be placed on courses primarily for graduates. Mathematics. Special courses for teachers in high schools, for instruc- tors in technical schools and col- leges, and engineers in industry will be offered. There is also a wide range for advanced and research work. Fundamental courses for undergrad- uates will also be available. Mineralogy. Courses in Mineralogy, Litholdgy nad Petrography will be given in the laboratory in Natural Science Building. Special work and graduate work will also be offered. Oriental Languages and Literatures. Courses in the Bible, Old Persian, Chinese Civilization, Chinese Litera- ture, Japanese and Hittite will be of- fered. Philosophy.
