The victory was Notre Dame's second in* five starts. The Wolverines garnered' two_ singles matches and one doubles. The Varsity was without the services of its captain, Neil Levenson, out with an infected toe. It is doubtful if he will be in condition to play against Minnesota tomorrow, although he may be ,able to see action against Chicago on Saturday. With Levenson out of the lineup, Coach Weir was forced to play each one of his players one notch higher than the spot the men were accus- tomed to play. Henry Cohen, playing in the num- ber three position, prolonged his win- ning streak to six straight matches by defeating his Notre Dame oppon- ent, George Rodgers, 8-6, .4-6, 6-4. Men To Meet At Ferry Field The four mightiest muscle-men in the Big Ten match strength in the shot put and discus events Saturday when the University of Illinois track team meets Michigan at Ferry, Field. The quadrumvirate will consist of Dean Frary and George Gragg for the Illini versus Big Bill Watson and John Townsend for Michigan. Of the five shotput places picked in the Conference indoor meet, Watson, Frary and Townsend took the first three and Gragg placed fifth. Ford- ham of Ohio State squeezed in at fourth. Watson Won Discus Watson, Townsend and Frary an- nexed win, place and show positions in the Big Ten discus last season while Watson and Frary took first and fifth respectively in the shot. Townsend was just out of the money in sixth and Gragg is a sophomore, hence did not compete. The four are rivals of long stand- ing. Besides their loop competition, they have met at such track and field carnivals as the Illinois and But- ler Relays.- At least two of them have always finished in the summaries and usually- all four. Big Bill's spring steel right which whips the iron ball out over 50 feet at any and all occasions and the dis- cus- around the 150 feet looks likely to- dominate the affair as always. Second Place Is Toss-Up The other two places are .not so certain with any one of the other three likely to come through with Jake' and Frary about even money in the shot' for' second place, Town- send holding a slight edge'over Frary * izn e discs 'and Gragg a dark horse STAGEHAND OUT Kentucky Derby racing odds were shattered yesterday after- noon when Stagehand, 5 to 2 f a- vorite was withdrawn from the classic because of a high fever and sore throat. My Bi gea By MAL ELWARD , Purdue Football Coach Playing scrub ball in Iowa son'ie years ago, I actually saw a pitcher throw two strikes with one pitch. Here's the way it happened. Myers, the pitcher, was one of those "nuts" who was liable to do anything at any time. While sit- ting on the bench during one game, he got a brainstorm. There was an old russet orange lying in the dugout, and he stuffed it in his back pocket as he walked out to the mound. After the warmup, he took the or- ange out of his pocket, put the ball in, and went into his motion. Suddenly he let go-not with the ball but with the orange. It was a perfect strike right down the alley, and the batter took a good cut and fouled it. Th orange flattened out, shot off the bat, and splattered against the um- pire's mask. It was two strikes-one on the batter, one on the ump. Caps, Gowns and Hoods FOR FACULTY AND GRADUATES COMPLETE RENTAL AND SALES SERVICE Call and inspect the nat- ionally advertised line of The C. E.
