Zippers Still Smart
Going south? You few lucky ones
who are planning on taking a little
southern jaunt before the beginning
of the end, take heed. Casual, com-
fortable sport dresses for afternoon
wear should be the first -item in your
southern wardrobe.
Simplicity is the predominating
note in all the latest sport dresses.
Fancy, frilly outfits have no place
in the carefree, languorous amosphere
of the southland. A combination of
comfort and smartness is to be de-'
sired. All the new mid-season dresses
feature pastel shades and cool, crisp
materials. Challis, spun rayon, linen,
silk and pique are some of the most
popular materials used, being both
soft and light in weight.
Splashy Prints Are In
This season's array of dresses will
set the pace for next summer's styles.
Vivid embroidered flowers are dec-
orating white crepe dresses. StripesI
are also reaching a new high in the
world of fashion this year. On. dressE
is made with a waist of vertical mul-
ti-colored stripes, and on the skirt,
the stripes run diagonally.
The dirndl types of dress is pre-
dicted to be a great favorite for spring
and summer because it is designed
to give comfort and free movement.
This style has a full, peasant-type
skirt gathered at the waistline. These
are shown in splashy prints for;
spring, and in delicate designs for1
southern wear.
Studs Have Cropped Up
Studs are °another feature of theI
crop of dresses. The tailored sport
outfit has studs on the sleeves, collar
and down the front. The classic white
sport dress is still worn a great dealt
for leisure moments. Many of the.
pew cotton spectator dresses are
trimmed with cross stitching in bright
colors.
Zippers, too, are being shown a
great deal. In bright colors, they
make attractive additions to light
summer dresses.
One smart dress is shown in light
blue spun rayon. It buttons down
the front and has inserts of linen
lattice lace. Another is of dull white
crepe, plainly made, featuring a fing-
ertip cape appliqued with embroidery
and a girdle of the same material.
Startling, Yet Attractive,
Are New Evening Shoes
Exotic evening shoes reflect their
wearer's personality this coming sea-
son. Perugia of Paris has designed
a pair that are so extreme as to be
startling-yet attractive. They have
high soles and heels of bright green
kid, gold-piped. Wide, spaced straps
of patent leather swathe the foot
from the open toe to the ankle.
Colored kid sandals to match or
contrast with your loveliest frock
have been designed' by the same per-
son. The toeless shoes Pave tiny
straps binding the feet to the ankle,
but the sides are open, giving the
effect of a crisp spring evening.
