The dress and match-, ing coat, or jacket may each be used with other ensembles, and they make the perfect outfit when worn to- tether, Beige Used On Navy Costume suits may have contrast- ing full-length topcoats of heavier material or shorter full jackets of matching material. The latter type is the more dressy. Bolero suits usually consist of a wool skirt and bolero, worn with a simple tailored blouse. A dress of light fabric in Yuva tanis, zippered to the waist, has a pleated skirt and tucks radiating from a small pointed collar. The ac- companying three - quarter length coat is of nubby wool fabric. A cos- tume suit in beige has a dress with a navy 'ascot and matching buttons down the front. The loose hip-length jacket has clever high slit pockets. Caracul Trims Wool A navy blue wool outfit consists of a I simple tailored dress and a long coat banded. with gray caracul. A rather heavy navy sheer is the fabric used in a suit with quilted cuffs and panels on its three-quar- ter length jacket. The fitted dress has a satin sash, and there are jew- elled clips at the neckline. Another of this same fabric has a lace bodice, , gay red sash and jacket sleeves banded with dark grey fur. Dusty Rose Chic A light blue wool suit is accented with navy in scroll patterns on the short jacket and zppers on the dress sleeves. A dustybse wool dress is worn with g full light blue hip-length jacket of matching design.. Bolero dresses are a very popular style. They are° especially effective when the accen tlebodice is bal- ancd by a pleat skirt. TAUPE GOES WITH NAVY Taupe tones 'in hose ranging from taupe-beige to a rosy-gray hue are sponsored for wear with navy cos- tumes, but many will prefer the con- trast of sunny hoiery colors. Light coppery colors are considered best for gejneral wear blending with navy black, or the new range of grees an- ticipated for spring wear. Stockings with over-tones of soft rose or blue are suggested with print frocks, or navy as they blend well. By JEAN HASTIEj Even the plainest girl can be trans- formed into a siren 'this spring by wearing a frothy dinner dress that will make her appear utterly feminine, or by wearing a sleek gown that will make her completely glamorous. For that clinging vine effect wear a mauve chiffon dinner gown with yards and yards of material in the skirt. Violet velvet ribbon forms the double waistline, accentuating slim waists. It ties about the bodice and matches a cluster of violets a the low neckline. A dramatic effect is achieved by Carolyn's chiffon dinner dress in mid- night blue, with a V-neck, a high back and an extremely full skirt. The gown is shirred with "Lastex" yarn at the sleeves and at the bodice, ac- complishing the slim, lowered waist- line essential this Spring. Fullness, Pleats Good Breathtaking is Kalmour's dusty, pink dinner gown of Celanese rayon sheer. It is radiant with pleats, hav- ing a pleated skirt and pleats draping into a V-neck and secured by a ewelled clip. The tiny waist is circled by a belt of self-material. Like a- very breath of spring is a snow-white crepe dinner dress with silver circlets gleaming on the round- ed neckline and demure puffed sleeves. The severity of the sweep- ing lines is softened by a narrow silver-edged belt. Dull mat crepe is destined to be, popular this coming season. This material is featured in a saffron model with golden leather scrolls ap- pliqued on the high neckline and short, loose-haniging sleeves. Ex- treme fullness is gathered to the front and held there by ties of the ma- terial. A similar dress is modelled in lark-spur blue and is trimmed with a silver leather motif. An exciting dinner dress is being shown this season, adapted from the peasant dress of Hungary and de- signed by Pantlika of Budapest. The frock of white chiffon has short, pleated and puffed sleeves, and the sleeveless vest is embroidered with yarn in vivid colors and trimmed with multi-colored buttons. Femininity Desirable Utterly feminine is the dinner gown with a black crepe skirt circled with tier after tier of black marquisette ruffles. A white marganza top and a red sash tied at the waist complete this dashing dress. Every woman should have one loose-hanging, every-ready dinner dresses that is suitable for any time of the year, and that is especially be- coming to the tall, slender figures. One of these comes in navy blue crepe with shirring from the shoulders to the waist and with front fullness in the skirt. The top has three large pink agate buttons. Ideal for those parties that are thought up on the spur ofi the moment is a black crepe sporting a bolero embroidered with white flowers and a sash of flame red. Equally appro- priate is another black crepe with a low-necked white top, narrow red belt, and a white crepe jacket with a red and white flower boutonniere. Two-Tones Attractive Be exotic in a dinner gown of two- tones rose crepe. The left side of the dress is the lighter rose, and the right side is the darker shade. Two scarfs are held in place at the throat by a hammered silver clip and flow over the shoulders and down the back. Another half and half evening dress is fashioned with a flowing wisteria chiffon skirt and a saffron crepe top featuring a cluster of purple violets at the draped neck. Carnations seem to fit in with the. modern trend, the florists say, which, when added to their "clean appear- ance" and the fact that they don't wilt when milady has had them on for an hour or so, accounts for, their rising popularity. They are arranged in groups of three or five, like the gardenias, or are "fluffed" into a round pom-pom cluster. An unusual carnation is the "kokomo," which is the color of cream with flakings of pink. There is one suggestion-white iris look surprisingly like orchids, and last as long as the difference in price! atmosphere to these dances. Bared shoulders and bouffant skirts are be- ing shown everywhere. One dress which expresses the sentiment of the past is a pleated black net with off- shoulder scarf, tiny waist and an old- fashioned bouquet trim. Gowns Express Romance j Pleated chiffons and organzas are more modern expressions of nine- teenth century Romanticism. Smoky grey (a very smart color for eve- ning) organza with a bodice of grey satin is another modern adaptation of the romantic mood. Another smart version is of black lace and White organza. It has a cape over the shoulders and an old-fashioned paniered skirt. Especially good this season are dresses showing the Latin influence. One of taffeta has a navy blue skirt, a smocked white blouse and a navy blue smocked bolero. Another in black has a top of black lace ruffles and a rep crepe sash. Ruffles of black marquisette, tier upon tier, circle a spreading skirt of black crepe. A red sash and white marganza top complete a very attractive gown. Blouses Are Loose Blouse and skirt effects, too, are very popular. One delicately ruffled' organdie blduse of shirt waist lines tops a full silk chiffon skirt. Some of the bodices blouse all around while others blouse only in back. Loose lines have become quite the rage and fulness breaks above and below small waists. Another showing the trenl toward fluffy ruffles has a fringe of upturned ruffles on the front of its white organza blouse. The skirt is of stiff dark blue chiffon. Color contrasts are always smart and are being used quite effectively in evening dresses this spring. A very smart dinner dress is of crepe panels and draperies in two shades of rose. Black and white combinations are outstanding as exemplified in a white Empire dress decorated with a black velvet sash. Plain fabrics are being contrasted which is very short, but has a large roll. Another style, quite the opposite from the page-boy, leaves the hair straight around the neckline, but very curly on top of the head. This is done by piling long curls high 1 abovethe ears and over the head. No part is needed. Curls Are Piled High For those who do not desire curls over the forehead, a large wave may be worn, extending practically from ear to ear. This pulls the hair up in back, and the curls are worn high on the back of the head. Another style for evening featuresk large loose waves. This makes a very soft coiffure with two large curls placed on the crown of the head. This style gives the impression of long! with large prints. A local shop shows a large floral design on white chiffon with a wide shirt shirred into a nar- row waist. The bright, splashy colors look painted on the white background. Another, with a navy blouse, has a full skirt of a bold flower print. + Lucein Le Long * Colonial Dames * Rubensteins * Primrose House * Du Barry .
