Until late last night the big building resounded with the noise of students hurrying to finish construction of the more than half a hundred booths planned entirely by student organizations. Little did one imagine last winter upon. entering the Field House to see the Wolverine basketball team whip Purdue or the track team wal- lop Pittsburgh that before the year was over a giant Ferris Wheel and a Tilt-a-Whirl would take the place of the hardwood and the baseball cage. But it has happened and it is prob- able that the crowd that witnessed the Purdue game will be but a handful as compared to the throng, that flocks to the Field House to- night and tomorrow. Route Of Michigras The route of the Michigras pa- rade which begins at 3:30l p.m. today will be as follows E. Huron St. to Main St., Main St. to E. William St., E: William St., to State St., State St. to N. University St., N. University to E. University St., E. University to S.. University St., S. University St. to State St., and south to Yost Field House. or a sound effect record of wild beastsgrowling ferociously and the name of the booth is Tiger Hunt. But the anti-climax comes with the announcement that the role of the igers will be taken by 50 hungry beetles obtained from the University Museums. The object. of the hunt is to catch the beetles in small traps mounted on a board, according to Dave Laing, '39, chairman of the booth. Each customer operates one of the 10 traps and as soon as the beetles are re- leased the winner will be the man that catches a beetle first, he said. The fraternity has mounted two boards to provide for constant opera- tion-while one board is being played the beetles are corralled off the other board. The idea came to the boys from an article in the Reader's Digest de- scribing a similar booth operated at a carnival with beetles obtained from under large stones. Trigon was. able to avoid the back-breaking task of peeking under stones because of an article in The Daily recently that de- scribed a variety of beetles main- tained at the Museums to eat the re- maining flash off skeletons in the:. museum. Campbell and Chief of Police Lewis V. Fohey will lead the Michigras parade at 3:30 p.m. today, Murray Campbell, '38, chairman of the Michigras parade committee, announced yesterday. Mr. Campbell, known to students as "Uncle Bob," will ride with Chief Fohey in a black hack drawn by two white horses,Campbell said. The parade, which will consist of floats, bicycle riders, horses, dogs and other novelties, will begin at E. Huron St. and Fifth Ave., circle the campus, and wind-up at Yost Field House. An addition to the parade made yestetrday is a group of trained horses and other animals which will perform tricks, Campbell said. The animals are being quartered in Ann Arbor before beginning a tour. Plans to include in the parade the Gargoyle's "ten prettiest girls on campus" had to be abandoned be- cause only four of the girls consented to participate, Campbell said. Prizes contributed by Montgomery Ward and Co., will be awarded to the best-dressed bicycle riders. First place winer will be given $5, second place, $3, third place, $2, and fourth place, $1. Similar prizes will be awarded to the best-dressed master and dog in the parade, and a $10 prize will be awarded to the best float. Machine Shorthand ---- New Class Monday ---- Hamilton Business College William at State Two Booths Are To Be Projects As the first projects of the newly- organized Independent Men's Asso- ciation, the group will conduct two booths at the Michigras. As one of the features of the carni- val activities a radio will be raffled by the Independents. Tickets have been sold at 10 cents per ticket with approximately 1,000 having already been sold. The second booth will be unique in the carnival-toy water guns being used toextinguish lighted candles. A difficulty which was overcome by those in charge was thenguns 'shoot- ing too much water at one discharge. If this were not remedied the range of the candles would readily have been found at one shot. ..But the guns have been regulated, it was hap- pily announced. The Independents, although newly organized, have planned an extensive program for next year with the pro- mised assistance of faculty and many campus organizations ,including the Union, the League, the Assembly and The Daily. It is hoped through spon- soring such projects as booths at the Michigras the campus will realize the permanency of the group. The present organization is being sponsored by the Union and has as temporary chairman Bruce Telfer. R Tours &Cruises ENGLAND, FRANCE. GERMANY, Etc.
