Louis XIII Is Topic of French Club Talk Addressing the regular French lec- ture series sponsored by Cercle Fran- cais, Prof. Warner F. Patterson pre-j sented this week some side-lights 1 on the life of Louis XIII of France, who reigned from 1610 to 1643. "Although Louis XIII is less well; known than either his father Henryl IV or his son Louis XIV," Professor! Patterson said, "he is nevertheless a most interesting and rather a re- markable person." The speaker then traced the per- sonal relations between Louis XIII and his prime minister, Cardinal Richelieu. Explaining that the fame of the latter has rather umbragedl the king, Professor Patterson went! on to present a transcript of the abil- ities and aptitudes of Louis XIII ' which, he said, entitle him to no little fame in his own right.j --; EVENING RADIO PROGRAMS Mrs. Osa Johnson Will Give Talk Here 6:00- WJR Joe Penner: Jimmie Grier's Music. Court To Hear Union Use of the courts, he added, "is one of the peaceful methods to proceed in a matter of this kind. Both sides leave a right to pursue in the courts their rights and it should be helpful to both sides and to the public." Circuit Judge Paul V. Imminence of this new ef- fort by General Motors to clear strik- ers from its plants was reported to have been one of the reasons Sloan refused to enter the tentative agree- ment arranged by Secretary Perkifis. General Motors announced tonight that nearly 83 per cent of 149,249 workels affected by stikes and shut- downs have signified by Vetition or otherwise that they wish an immed- iate return to work and that they protest against the strikes. The union made no immediate comment, but earlier its leaders had charged coercion to obtain signatures to the ,petitions, and said it had instructed union members to join the "back-to- work" movement to protect their jobs.
